Recently picked up a UC Torana, motor has had some work on it (Flat tops, Crow 616 cam, Crane lifters, Yella Terra head w/ ports removed and anti crush tubes fitted, Roller Rockers etc) very lumpy idle, they said it was all done in 2016 full rebuild, motor sounds tight, nice and responsive, no blue smoke, its running a 350 Holley which im about to replace with a 38 Weber..(not a fan of 2 barrel holleys)

 

Has a trimatic which looks like it needs a rebuild, leaking from the passenger side, took a few seconds to go into gear, so i fitted a new pan gasket and filled it up with new ATF, goes into gear right away now but is still leaking, people i bought it off didnt mention anything about the trans and what was done to it or if it had a hi stall

 

Main problem is when i put it in Reverse or Drive, the revs drop right down and eventually stalls unless i ride the brake and slightly accelerate, but in park or Neutral idles perfectly, revs smooth, played around with the holley and had it idling higher in park/neutral, but still looking to stall in drive/reverse.

 

Will be fitting a VH commodore dissy + new plugs/leads when i put the weber on this week hopefully, has points dissy now.

 

I think it only has the standard torque converter, Any ideas to what is causing this? do i need a hi stall with this cam?

hi cam is to big for auto    616 is a 73 Bathurst cam    u either go manual or trick up your auto

Im going to have to rebuild the trans either way, do i have to beef it up or can i just get it reco'd with a hi stall? Not looking to thrash it, just a street cruiser

Insert the auto into the closest bin and replace with a manual box, and your problem will disappear.

Can’t hurt to beef up a bit can it? You never know. I’m still getting my head around how my old crash box works let alone autos. I believe you can fit some of the V8 internals. Manual boxes have their own issues with a cammy motor and autos seem to be cheaper to overhaul.
