Put them in the kick panels and knock up some wooden donuts if you've got clearance issues at the back. Too easy, and heaps neater

I was thinking about the donuts on the parcel shelf, plenty of room there for 6.5in speakers.

Did a masterfull job on the slicing of the dash for the head unit, with the help of my Bro-in-law and his trusty miniture belt sander thingy (?!).
Only to get it home, and trial fit it in the dash, when WHAMO!!! it won't fit!!!
So I had to source some RCA's with a 90 deg right angle plug to get the clearance!
Anyway, got some pics and I'm mid way through the carpet install...just a bit fiddly, but nothing to cause headaches (heard horror stories in the past) so the leads and speaker wires are sorted.... speakers to go in tomorrow after I stop and get some metall blades for the jigsaw.... another set back!
Some timber to mount the amps to and all will be done.
Itchin to get wheels so i can get the tyres and then lower the thing!!!
Cheers.

The things you gotta do just to pull out the centre facia when you've got air con!
Out came everything bar the front seats.
Centre console(s), T-bar selector cover, kick panels, back seat, air con face....
Here's the original front carpet, and the original underlay.... in pretty good nick still, but I went with all new underlay, with bitumin backed up front.
The floor still in good nick....
Had to get a shot of this.....
6 FEB 1979
The back seat, like everything else is in great nick...
Original underlay in back seat
Will get some more pics tomorrow and some shots of all speakers and amps in.

Both bumpers had seen some touch parking in their life and as a result, there was some peeling of the chrome and a few dings.
I had a spare front and rear bumper that came with the car, but the rear chrome was below par, found one at my faithfull wreckers, which was actually an LH/LX. (no UC avail)
Fitted it last night.
Problem was that the captive nuts on the LH/LX brackets weren't suited to the UC bolts!
So I had to change the bumper brackets over. I now have UC brackets holding an LH/LX bumper. (the only difference is that the UC's were half the weight)
Anyway, a bit of stuffing around and all is good.
And this is the front bumper that came as a spare.
I've left the over riders off at this stage, they may go back on...
Also in this pic you'll see my NOS grille.
I love my wreckers.
He's on my Christmas Card List!!!! he he
I'm hoping to fin ish off the stereo (rear speaker install) tomorrow if i get some time.
Cheers

Anyway, rear speakers are in and system now rocks!!!
Loudest and clearest stereo I've ever had (without being doof-doof worthy!! )
Had the Air-Con regassed and overhualed during the week, nice and cold for the boys to ride in now that summer is almost upon us!
A big thanks to Richard from JAG-ART in Eden Park for the 3 hours he spent with me going over and through everything to do with the system.
He comes highly recommended! (PM for Ph number)
Well after a surprise e-bay visit, (thanks DREWBOY!!!! Go and do some work Paul :finger: !) I'm the new owner of NVMYLH's 202/5 speed combo.
I had originally pencilled in Keithy's_UC's motor to go into the old girl, and was very keen for this, but to find a very similar motor with a 5 speed (I'd also been looking for one of these) and a couple of other extras, I couldn't say no.
(A big apology to Keith, I'm, sorry mate , but such a good motor as yours will sell, for sure)
So now all I need is to borrow an engine crane and some experience, as I'm approaching my first ever engine swap!!!
Still waiting on the rims to be found and reco-ed so I can lower the old girl.(Waiting 3 mnths now )
And YiriSS will have a PM soon regarding a new exhuast for her too!!!
So slowly but surely the daily driver is being transformed to a semi cool UC!
Just saw the last pic, noticed the side mirror...had to add that the GTS mirror is now fitted, with new glass and fitting bracket, thanks to Rare Spares.
Cheers for now...

I think I'll keep the stockie as she is.....136,000k's is to young to go blowing up!
Besides, Keith and your good self could rock up right, smack, bang in the middle of the engine swap!
So at least you'd be guaranteed a cold one ready and waiting!
Cheers.

Can anyone advise on a good gasket for this job? I was told rubber at Rare Spares.

I got under the car last night and measured the Trimatic. It was 675mm from block to end of rear extension housing.
Celica 5 speed is 700mm from block to end of housing.
This would explain the 1 inch others have been told to cut from their tailshaft.
My understanding - and please correct me if I'm wrong - is that the LH/LX/UC tailshaft is approx 1313mm and the LC/LJ is 1270mm long.
This gives a 42mm difference....so I can't see how a LC/LJ tailshaft could be used for a Celica 5 speed conversion.
This is driving me nuts!
Surely there's someone out there who's got a Celica 5 speed box in a LH/LX/UC who can help me out here!!!!!
Will travel to take measurements!!!
HELP!!!

Dont stress about my 179, there's a couple of peeps interested (one of which owns the green UC i recently road-worthied). Nonetheless, i have plenty of space in the shed out the back for motors! Thats where my old 202 currently resides!
I cant 100% confirm with the Celica box, but from getting 95% of the way into a fit-up i could see no need to shorten... Maybe Nathan (ToranaZ) or someone else could confirm it for you!
Cheers again for the beers and roadkill! Was an awesome night!

Well the engine swap has begun.
Last night I ripped out the auto brake pedal and in went the manual clutch and brake pedals.
I gave the new motor a bath and I'm tossing up wether or not to give it a new coat of jam (black). I want to pull out the old motor tonight, so I might be pushing a color change.
Just need to grab a rocker cover gasket and some oil, oil filter and some gearbox oil and I think I'm right to go.
Will grab some pix along the way too, hopefully.
Cheers
