If you are having any hardcore dramas i may be able to come down tomorrow afternoon or monday (can MAYBE delay the return trip by a day or so) and give you a hand! You've got my number anyway and other than two-wheeled fun tomorrow i could maybe squeeze in an emergency trip to nth melb!!
Cheers and good luck mate!

RIM, I'll get some pics for you when I've finished the engine swap.
Well I'll update the swap.
After starting work at 5:00am, i got home at midday after picking up the engine crane and some goodies from Supercheap and Rare Spares (Speedo cable, coolant etc). Got stuck into it. Fit a thermo to the 3 core radiator, bro in law turned up. This proved a God send! He's done heaps of Red Motor stuff in his time, so his help was Gold!
Undid the essentials and out she came.
No real dramas, made sure the Air Con compressor and lines were safely out of harm's way as I had the system regassed recently.
Motor and gearbox came out quite easily.
Gave the new donk a clean up ready for the alloy rocker cover.
Had to grind off a small portion on the front to clear the thermostat housing for fitting, then had to take some off the thermo housing to sit flush against the rocker cover. (sorry, no pics, I was busy with the grinder)
Not a great drama, no probs.
Had to remove starter motor from old motor and fit to new, and also the pulley for the air con compressor. Threaded a bolt here, bugger! Gotta get that fixed straight away!
Also was the bracket for air con and alt.
Wasn't long before the new engine and 5 speed was sliding into LUCy (as Mrs knoath calls it)
Been a long day, going to bed.
More updates tomorrow.
Good night

OK, well today I managed to get the gearbox cross member lined up and installed with the help of another Bro in law, Matt. He came round with a tap and dye set to fix the threaded harmonic balancer problem.
that allowed me to check out the tailshaft length to see what needed to be done (20mm coming off Monday morn).
Shifter sat back a little, so had to grind away a small amount of tranny tunnel.
Next came the speedo cable (modified one from Rare Spares , Holden speedo/Toyota gearbox), went in with no dramas. Clutch cable had us scratching our heads though....wasn't allowing enough adjustment, rang ENVMYLH, (previous owner) and he explained we needed a spacer, rigged one up from an old card table leg (!) and job was done!!!!!
Dummy fitted the inlet manifold to work out what was needed for fuel lines and vacuum lines, realised I can't use the standard manifold to rig up the exhuast so that was that!!!! It'll have to go on a flat bed to the exhaust joint....not gunna drive with straight out headers....
Had a couple of comments from Bro in laws like "F**k that's a big carby!!!!" and "You'll need a second job to pay the fuel bill!" ..... but doesn't that just look like porn?!!!!!
3 core radiator went in without much drama, (thanks Drewboy, much appreciated)gotta wire up the thermo switch etc, but all good.
Well that's about it for tonight.
A big G'day to LX2DR who came over about an hour too late, missed out on the use of the engine crane to put the original motor on a trailer.
Helped out heaps with bits and pieces too. Thanks Paul!! Much appreciated!
Love those vice grip thingamiebobs!!!
OK, I'm off to bed to get up and do it all again, the light is shining from the end of the tunnel.
Just can't wait to crank her over and blast down the street!!!!
Cheers

studricho, yes it's been recurved.
Nath, sorry mate, will get some pics of the spoiler when the car is getting me to work on a daily basis again.
Shifter's fine now, cross member fitting helped that!!!
OK, well had some running around to do today, didn't get started on the car till 3:00pm. Bugger.
Got the radiator in, inlet manifold and extractors fitted, hooked up all vacuum lines and fuel lines, dropped off the tailshaft to have it shortened 20mm, H/D uni's going in and a modified yolk too, $270 +GST!!!!
Nearly told them to harden the f#$k up!!! (makka)
Going to exhaust place tomorrow then off to Auto Elec to work out why she's not kicking over. Must be something to do with being an auto....not starting in D,R,1 or 2...??? Only thing I can think of. Got all my lights etc, just wont turn over.
Another bugger!
Towey will be here at 7:30, gotta drop the missus off at work, kids at Nannie's and run around in the Dunnydoor to pick up tailshaft and whatnot.
Wish me luck.
Cheers.

Sorry Knoath, havent been updating myself with this thread. I have posted b4 on stereo front end probs on a UC......where is a good quest. As you have found out the depth of the space isnt big enough. For any others contemplating a stereo in a UC, the standard DIN size will fit just, but what is not mentioned in the dimensions of most units is how big the plugs are that may need to go into the back of the unit, ie cd stacker, aerial, rcas, multipin connectors etc.Only to get it home, and trial fit it in the dash, when WHAMO!!! it won't fit!!!
So I had to source some RCA's with a 90 deg right angle plug to get the clearance!
Check the back of the unit you purchase, a unit with all the connections from wires is preferable to hard connections into the rear of the unit........it will need to sit out from the dash otherwise. put it in the glove box someone said? eh......isnt that on the other side to the driver?
Looks a fine car inside and out......have a UC the same colour too, but different interior.........bone with taupe dash. Pitty I sold(for not enought) the sle steering wheel of my sunbudgie(same colour interior as yours) would look the part........getting another one in good nick that colour.......rare as...personally dont like the look of aftermarket steering wheels(too hoonish for my tastes......but thats me) NOS grille, it looks like the Sunbird one?.......Torana one is chrome(thought you should know)
You are refitting the aircon? From the pics your new fan arrangement doesnt look its going to cut it sitting in traffic at 35C with the air on, unless you go twin au electrics, which it doesnt look like. Is there another fan on the front of the condensor? If not recommend you put the one on the inside of the rad at the front and reinstall the clutchy, they put them on ac models for a reason. Most aftermarket installs just fitted the clutchy without an additional fan on the condensor/front where the fact installs have the clutch fan and electric condensor fan.
Good luck with the motor and hope no unexpected probs arise!
