Hi guys , hope you can help here!
With my ignition in the on position and my park light switch pulled half way out this should activate the parks lights.
But my drivers side one illuminates but quite dim, the passenger side one , nothing at all . Both indicators work fine when the indicator stalk is used .
The green indicator lens on the right illuminates when I pull the switch out for the parkers , I don’t know what’s going on . Hoping someone can help . Paul.

Might have a poor earth on the passenger side or a short or a broken wire or your headlight switch is dodgy. I trust you have already tried swapping out the bulbs and nothing changes.

AFAIK you shouldn't need the ignition turned on for the park lights and headlights to work.

Hope it’s not the switch Dave! Headlights work ok when pulled fully out . It’s a new wiring harness too so it should be good , I’m going to have to fix this , it’s booked in for rego next week.😬

Perhaps it might be getting feedback through the park/indicator bulb contacts and earthing via the dash light.

S pack & Gtrboyy are correct in my experience, i chased the same problems years ago, stray lights on in the dash, dim park bulbs etc. Put earth straps on both front indicators and bingo, everything worked as they should.

As mention, key position should have nothing to do with park and head lights. I think you have a couple of issues being earth and something wired wrong??.

Nice dash resto Paul.

Poor earth will give this problem.

Could be at one of the indicators, but could also be the dash earth.

I would give that one a good looking at.

Also, the front indicator/park lamps should be a double filament type.

Make sure you havent got a single filament lamp fitted instead.

That could also give issues like that.

Cheers

Rob

Other weird issue I remember is guages used to flicker or maybe dash lights were too dim...ended up being clips bolted to dash were loose & not good enough earth contact.

From memory, I think the bad earth on the front ones is on the money.

I think the bulb holder earth return connection is via that little flat strap inside the lamp fitting.  In turn, this strap is connected to one of the mounting studs that pokes through the apron. In an imperfect world, there is a chance that the stud passes perfectly through the hole, without ever touching the sides of the hole, and thus, the only way the earth return is made, is iF the speed nut you put on the stud, actually grinds enough paint off the inside of the apron, as you tighten it up.

In a recently painted/restored car, the above is probably likely not to occur.

Thus you get the wacky feedback issues like you have?

I tried those little "star" washer thingoes, but that was not enough...in the end I ran an earth wire from the stud and connected it to somewhere where it was not seen via a self tapper ( that should cut through all the paint etc).

Hope that all makes sense.

To check this is the problem before launching into the above solution, just get a little alligator clip lead, and go from the earth strap inside the lamp fitting, to a good earth on the body / or the battery -ve. If the poor earth IS  the problem, it will instantly dissapear.

p.s. also double check you have the correct globe and that it is inserted the correct way.

Also it doesn’t hurt to clean up all your contact points with emery paper and flush out with electrical contact cleaner.

Righto! All sorted , full steam ahead . Turned out the passenger side indicator housing didn’t like the Narva globe, so I replaced it with a really good Osram .
The dim one one the drivers side turned out to be the threaded pin that passes through the body it was corroded, I thought it would be ok but obviously not. Nothing that a brass metal thread can’t fix.
Cheers guys ! Thanks for the help.
