Never knew about the nose cone tech.

 

I wear on of those HANS devices on the track, and initially they are a huge pain, but you soon get used to them.  Feel naked now if you get in the car without it.

I used to think the same way about wearing armour on the dirt bike. But after several broken ribs and a squashed pancreas, I soon got used to it.

It always amazes me how these guys race again after a big prang.
I admire them, they must have a massive pair to even drive again at all.
I remember seeing Rick Kelly have an off at the chase a while back.
He was ghostly white and shakey when they interviewed him afterwards.

Ever dare to. The speeds they do across the top, in that skinny twisty bit of track from griffins bend to forest elbow
(after driving the track in my road car) to me is mind-boggling. 215kmh across skyline?
Rally, drag racing, f1, any of 'em. How's the grand prix guys in t-shirts from the '50s?

Yes, of course you are correct.  I have driven a supercar around Bathurst and my lap times were......ahem.....Closer to harry Firths Cortina than what any modern day professional can whip up.

It's funny when you look at the old times.

 

I ran my LJ road  registered car around there in 2017/8  Challenge Bathurst event. 202 tripples etc, factory brakes, etc not a total hotty, but ok.

205/60/13 Yoky Advan tires, no experience.

My best time would have put me in the Top 10 on the starting grid, in 1970.(+ they didn't have the chase, but... the track wasn't as good, to be fair ).

This says so much more about tire technology and 186 vs 202 , than my driving.

Those guys on cheese cutter tires and "slip and slide seats" were balls out for sure.

Paul Stocker hit the end of pit wall at Thunderdome. Only broke a couple of bones in his foot.

Bob Forbes and Wayne Negus 1975 Sandown 250. The L34 ran out of brakes on the approach to Torana corner , smashed through the fence and ended up on top of a tree. The only thing that stopped the car from landing in a dam below. Picture credit unknown.
