Can anyone advise me of what coil spring insulators they have used and where they got them from for the FRONT suspension coils between the top of the coil and the tower of the K frame in an LC torana

I re-used the original ones.

 

Not sure if available aftermarket?

I'm considering copying these and making a few sets.

I put Superpro polyurethane ones in my LX, no complaints. They're just a basic flat ~12mm ring though, I glued them to the cross member first to make installation easier.

Looking for ideas of making LJ front spring insulators in Bunnings, what betta place. I dont seem to be able to find repro ones anywhere that suits. Below options seem cheap. (wot a tite ars)
Just cut to fit.

Would pvc be ok to use, OR could it be too brittle?Rubber maybe not?

Funny, I just bought 2 new plungers from Bunnings today. Both of mine broke. They just don't make em as good as they used to.

2 to 3mm nylon flat sheet would be ideal to cut some new spring insulators.

Right, went to a cheap shop, bought a relatively thin cutting board.

Measured, cut, trimmed, stress tested a sample, and temp fitted the spring with some pressure on it overnight.

If it doesn’t work there must be tougher stuff out there. Some of the materials I’ve seen used in high pressure gaskets might work. Looks a lot like roller skate wheels or the stuff used on motorcycle swing arms where the chain runs on it.

Those plastic cutting boards are probably made from nylon anyway. Nylon burns with a sooty flame and smells of marigolds, apparently.

It cut quite well with a small pizza wheel in my die grinder, could not smell anything much though, having blocked sinuses.
Sanded down the outer rough cuts with a different disc, trimmed out the internal hole using a single cut burr, then cleaned up the featherd egdges with a file n sandpaper.
I was happy enough when i bent the off cut in half, it did not crack under the pressure, so its got some resilience for $5.99.

Ok, pulled the left front spring back out, after the overnight temp install.
The insulator has formed to some degree over the upper coil and in relation to the tower seat shape.
Being slighlty thicker material and composition than original, obviously stiffer.

As pictured sorta sits relative to the original insulator, especially looking at where the top coil tail ends and is formed flat.
Was thinking maybe could have warmed up the red insulator material a little to soften it so it formed easier on install.

I think - and I'm open to comment, that as is will be fine. Not much diff to what was there the way it sits on the spring.
Will it matter the insulator does not wrap itself entirely to the flat section of the upper coil tail.

The Final "F" around. Polished a bit more out of centre to make it 82ish-mm ID and OD is around 117mm. Not as tight.

Maybe test a heat gun on a bit a see if it'll just wrap itself around with gravity.

I think what you have will be fine.
