Hi All. I have had a few new spring loaded switches disengage in the doors and the hand brake light, which isn't surprising, and just wondering what other people have used to keep them from springing apart.  I was thinking about something like a star push-on retainer washer or the like but keen if anyone has some other good ideas.  Also not sure if a metal washer will interfere with the electrics? Will jamming a match stick between the plastic prongs firm it up?

Usually the correct electrical connector for the switch helps hold them together.

Wrong connector or worn out bit it hangs on to.

Disassemble, spread the two legs to bend it out so it has a bit more pre-load, make sure the end of the legs has a nice 'edge' so it makes contact with the eyelet connector the whole way around, and it shouldn't be falling apart...

 

I don't think I've had a lot of problems with them. Not that I'm a big fan... they're pretty cheapo parts.

Thanks gents.  Yeah I suspect this being the original connector, it is a bit worn and so it just hangs on until the tension is released then re-applied (door open/closed).  They are a bit crap and I don't want to have to deal with a minor issue when the kick panels and dash are all in place. Match stick or the like may be the go but I want to make sure it is permanently in place.  I have some star retention washers I bought for the tail lights (I think) so may have a play with them.  Will let you know how I go. You can crimp some new eyelets on and ream them out to the right size if the ones on your loom are no good.

 

That is what Aaron at All Auto Recreations does. I bought some from him when I was buying various connectors etc. for my own car.
