What's the movie about?
Not about the Torana but they do walk past it and it gets a mention while he's showing it to her.

Nice work.
Thanks.
An old friend (Jamie) rang out of the blue asking if I still have my car. He was creative producer and also writing some of the soundtrack to it.
Funny you mention props, I was working for Jamie for a short while a few years back, he's part owner of Sydney Prop Specialists and some of the props on set are from the warehouse. He's tied into the film in a few different ways.
They originally planned for an old Monaro, they basically wanted an old car that when 'done up' could fetch a bit of money - for the storyline. A few words in the script had to be changed from whatever Monaro to 1976 LX Torana SL/R.
I remember Stephen Hunter trying to memorise the line and said, 'oh, there it is on the number plate'.
One guy with a Monaro wanted $450 for an hour, that is, turn up on set, start the clock, one hour later leave set.
Anyone that's been on a set knows it just doesn't work like that.
It was almost a last minute urgency and Jamie, not wanting to fork out such a sum... I came to his mind so he tried his luck.
Due to where it was located (side of the house) I had to be there before all the crew, catering, etc. took up the driveway on the other side and leave after they left. My car was there for a full day before 6am till just after 6pm and I happily did it for less than what Mr. Monaro wanted for an hour.
Actual screen time will probably be seconds, as you can see, one shot where they talk about it and in a few background shots.
I actually did/do have the car registered with a movie car co. Film Cars Aus. I think... 20 years and not one call
I've done quite a bit of extras work myself and remember one guy saying, 'you don't want your car in a movie' and when I asked why, he mentioned one time he was watching a scene, repeated many times taken from different angles and the car had to drive up to a point and do a sudden stop, you could smell burning brakes and rubber - there can be a bit of wear and tear involved. So I asked if there'd be anything like that going on - nope, just park it in the one spot all day.
Another time my car was pencilled to be in a short film with Sophie Lee and they planned on hanging a camera from the door and shoot the whole scene from point of view of watching two people in the front seat having a conversation. I think I scored that through this forum, someone came here asking for a Torana ...but that short film never even got to filming stage.
Jamie was keyboardist for Primary, his brother Sean played bass and Connie went on to sing for Sneaky Sound System, you may remember them from...

Woo Hoo, your in my home town Steve. I can see our new flood free bridge (which is currently under water) in the background in one of the shots.
Well done, I will have to keep an eye out for the flic when its out. I have been asked a few times to hire one of my cars for adds or film but the same story as you mentioned they have never followed through.

You may know Pete and Dave Reynold's? Pete built my amp (Reynold's Valveart) and apparently that's Dave's house.

Ah yes, this flood proof bridge, flooded for the 2nd time in 12 months.
Apparently when the govt. was asked, how on earth can you call this a flood proof bridge when it's under water?
Their response: It's still standing right? That's what we meant by flood proof.

I think that IS what they meant. It's still standing so it's flood-proof !!
They could have built it 3 or 4 metres higher, but what's the point if all of the surrounding roads are underwater ?

True!
Here's another flood-proof bridge that came in handy as a sanctuary for some people, their cars and some horses.

That's the thing, I imagine the demand would be for stockers for period dramas, etc.
When I signed up to an extras agency, I was told 'most of the work is for "boy next door" types but when we want long haired alternative types, we'll give you a call'.
I got quite a bit of work, most of the time my hair was tied back, one of my regular gigs was as an orderly in All Saints, just pushing people around in wheel chairs, walking around in the background, crossing the screen from one point to the other, etc. A case of 'don't blink' or you'll miss me, lol.
I was in just about all the TV series around at the time, at least once, Water Rats, H&A, Bad Cop Bad Cop, Wildside, even a re-enactment for ACA, etc. and quite a few ads.

Dr Terry
When the state government poached up the idea of a flood proof new bridge the plans were for a two lane bridge. We already had a flood proof bridge that was over 100 years old which was designed to be somewhat future proof unlike the new bridge we have now. The new design was outdated before the first set of plans were prepared. Although the old bridge was subjected the more than fifty floods it was never designed to handle multi B-double truck. Horse and cart where the vehicles of the day. And the poor old bridge copped a real hiding over its life. The government never spent any money on it other than painting the rails every 10-12 years.
The head of NSW infrastructure and RMS representatives at the time claimed the new bridge would give residents a flood free proof bridge allowing access for vehicles during major flood events. They stated the new bridge would be five meters higher than the old bridge and better control of Warragamba dam water releases and earlier controlled water release will see full access for motor vehicles during flood peaks.
Ok so what happened, lots more lies over three years, The Hawkesbury action group and other locals wrote to the government including me, to build a four lane bridge to future proof the increased traffic. The old bridge caused traffic jams every afternoon and every morning which seen me in a 1st gear 4km traffic line up. So why do you draw up plans with only two lanes. Eventually they changed the plans after so much backlash from locals. The brains of the project decided to make it a three lane bridge so now traffic only banks up of an afternoon to northbound traffic.
Yes they raised the new bridge by five meters but only on one end. The bridge slopes to to the north side bank so its level with the surrounding flood plain.
Your 100% right Dr Terry once your on the other side its still flooded with no where to go. But here's the good part. I wrote to the RMS Hawkesbury bridge design & planning department. From the bridge to a flood free road with access to all northside suburbs was only 2.5km. By building up the road by only two meters would give access during the highest reported floods. To dump a truck & dog trailer of clean dirt to Blacktown tip cost $2,000 in 2015. They dump thousands of truck loads per year from all over Sydney which is suitable for use in road construction. I suggested that if they charged trucks $1,000 per load this lower cost would save money to both the construction sites and developments through Sydney and the $1,000 charge would cover construction equipment to level, compact the dumped soil and peering . They would actually get a flood free access road all the way to Wilberforce. It was a no brainer. Their response to me was " Our design team have planed for the future and the new bridge will resolve all current problems to traffic control including times of local flooding."
Ha Ha so that really worked out well for them. We only asked for a Holden bridge not a Rolls Royce, but instead we got a Grate Wall.
