Hi,

The top steering column bearing is buggered in my LH. Now I know that these have a lip of alloy pressed over the end to retain them, so they are not replaceable if you take them out. Now I know where there is an LC sitting at a wreckers with its steering column in it. So my question is are the honey pot's the same?

Orr II have also read that you can Loctite or pin a new bearing in place. Does anyone have any pictures of this?

Yeah definitely not.

LC Torana uses an HK/HT/HG honey pot & the LJ/LH uses an HQ/HJ one with the ignition switch incorporated.

You can use loctite bearing retaining paste but I don't know the loctite part number. However once the steering column is all assembled the bearing can't go any where anyway. You may be able to clean the bearing in solvent and regrease it to reuse it.

Well, actually, if the steering shaft has been collapsed at some point in it's life (the two delrin pins have sheared) then it is quite important that the upper bearing be secured into the coffee pot.

If not it would be possible to pull the steering wheel, with the steering shaft and bearing attached, up/away from the coffee pot.

Well a funny thing happened a couple of days ago... You think you know whats around your own town... However I mentioned my problem of needing a new honey pot when I was in the brake shop and the guy there says "You should go and see so and so. Go up this road, turn down that drive and go see the guy at the end..he'll probably have some bits as he likes HQ's". Anyway. I arrive at this house and this guy has a Mint HQ Monaro, a Mint 4 door HQ, a factory V8 HQ ute and a HQ station wagon....and a massive shed full of spares. When I tell him about the honey pot I was after he said "Like that one in the door frame above your head?" And there was a mint put with a really good bearing and all in tact... And he said I could just have it since he liked seeing people get old cars back on the road. So I think I'll drop him a dozen some time.
