Hi,

I purchase a OEX BXS0165 starter motor from repco.

When I fitted the start motor in the locating hole on the bellhousing dust cover, there's a 6mm gap between starter and engine block mounting surface.

Has anyone had this problem with after market starter motors?

Do I need to modify/cut the bellhousing dust cover locating hole?

Thanks in advance.

The change in the hole in the bellhousing cover happened at the introduction of the Commodore (1978).

All Commodore style starter motors (genuine or aftermarket) will have this gap when you fit them to earlier cars (LH-LX, HT-HZ etc.)

So do I have to cut the top of the hole (to make a slot) on the dust cover?

Will this cause a problem with gear engagement?
