Some Advice Re 202 Blue .

Wondering if someone can help me. I just picked up a Blue 202 standard bore engine , has most bits except counterweighted crankshaft. Also have an old red 202 complete. What options do I have for crankshaft in the blue block. Will my red motor crank fit or does someone have a spare Blue motor crank for sale. Also no intake manifold. Had the Webber 2 barrel from xf Falcon on my old red. But looking for options for intake manifold for 12 port head.Just wanting to build nice street motor . Thanks.

Hi Peter,
 
The Red crank will fit, and rev harder.
 
The blue crank will be a smother motor.

Standard bore block is a good place to start, shame there's no crank.
Don't suppose you have the beefier blue rods either?
Do you have the electronic dizzy, blue flywheel and balancer?
Blue timing cover and fuel pump - I think that's all that is different from a red

If it were me, I'd track down another complete blue or black, choose the best block and build
one good one out of all the bits. Should be able to find one cheap somewhere

And paint it red

Or an ex- injected black ideally, according to ol' Jonno anyway. Holley 390 if you can find one. Otherwise varajet is alright IMHO. Stock exhaust manifold is ok. Red motor gear won't bolt to head.fuel pump and dissy are interchangeable but the electronic dissy is better.

Thanks guys, do have the ' Starfire' rods, timing cover, fuel pump , alloy cam gear and cam , 12 port extractors, most stuff except crank, flywheel and balancer. Bought from a member who posted on this forum but another chap was before me and just wanted the crank. I bought the rest.Keen to use what I have. My old red 202 has the hypertech type pistons.Not sure what oversize they are atm.
Good to know I can the red crank but will keep my open for blue one.

Good to have those rods, stronger than the red ones, heavier, meh
Extractors, good too. 12 port ones seem to be a pain to get hold of.
Blue Fuel pump stronger than red (but here nor there, usually)
(Correct me if I'm wrong here)
Aftermarket pistons usually have the oversize stamped on the top.
Might need a cleanup to see it , though.
Make sure you use a blue balancer if you use a blue timing cover.
Blue/black flywheels are a bit lighter too, though a red one will work ok.
Could use the pistons if they are in good nick, depends on the
hotness of your planned engine though...
Leading to compression targets to suit cams and such.
Nice street motors are always very different depending on the
builder/owner's ideas of nice

As long as your red crank is to suit with a rope rear main oil seal.

If it is from a neoprene rear seal block then you will need an adapter type neoprene seal to fit the rope seal blue block, if those seals are still available.

I have the blue / black block , crank, rods etc with the red flywheel machined to suit but have the red 9 port head. Drill for water ports. Was easier to find extractors and fit carbs. Be mindful if fitting to a Lj type sump that the counter weighted crank fouls the sump.

Managed to track down a counterweighted crankshaft and intake to suit 12 port. Checked my red motor and it has 30 over flat top pistons which I may use. Undecided on carb but have the Falc Webber's. 12 port head is from 3.3 so open chamber.Could anyone suggest a nice cam that works well in the blue motor for good torque .Have aussie 4 speed box and 3.08 diff at present, 14" wheels.

Basic torque and economy towing cam stage 1. 390 Holley if you can get one.

If you are on a budget then the varajet is OK IMHO. Not so many manifold options for 12 port. Triple dcoe, holley 2 4 barrels about it I believe. Nothing wrong with the stock exhaust manifold either.039f45674115888b728dfbb51937ac14.jpg
