Thanks, i will look into the tuning and see what i can find.

Im so confused why it doesn't operate with the damper off. It cranks but no start. Doesn't make sense.

I might put the dampener back on and see if its starts.

If it starts with the dampener back on, then maybe there is an issue with how i have a hooked up my fuel system.

Did you get the USB cable and USB software key with it?

What is the exact model of the ECU?

You can download the relevant software from Haltech.

Buy a cheap laptop if you dont already own one.

Seems the software will do data logging for you.

Get the car running again and hook up the laptop and go for a drive.

Perhaps use your phone video function to give you reference points to help analyse the data.

Do a variety of driving concentrating a bit more on the areas where you are having the issues.

I have heard stories of people with Haltech ECUs where the tuner they went to had no idea how to work the software.

That may be the case with your tuner.

Rarely will they admit that they have no idea.

Cheers

Rob

The damper is just like a muffler, if you remove & replace it with a bit of pipe the motor will still run. Many cars don't even have dampers, it all depends on how noisy (or rigid) the fuel line is.

The regulator is easily identified by its vacuum hose, a damper will not have this.

Dampener & fuel pressure regulator 2 different things.

Can check fuel pressure with a guage.

With dampener they're meant to decrease or stop fuel pulsing in lines...on early vn/p's even with dampeners you can hear or feel lines tapping away...supposedly can cause issues with tunes but only heard of it happening on high power turbo cars tbh

There is an app ALDLdroid for delco ecu you can use to watch what is going on with your phone but as said it's got Haltech.

Probably need to start from basics go right through it then watch it in real time with afr & fuel pressure gauge to try work out what is happening & when

Does it still have (vss) speed sensor & all other sensors hooked up like factory efi car?

Yes my Haltech came with usb and cable.

Im not too sure on the exact model, but its called GM Sport i think. There is only one haltech ecu model available for the injected 304 (I think).

Dr Terry, I have removed the dampener and replaced it with a bit of pipe. Funny, no start!

I will plug it back on over the weekend and see what happens.

No speed sensors connected. Only sensors are map, air, coolant and tps from memory.

Reading through some stuff on ECUs and a few mentioned that a speed sensor was pretty important as it let the ECU know the car was moving and not just sitting there revving.

The ECU would likely have a different set of parameters for moving and sitting.

You can get a GPS speed sensor to feed an input to the ECU so it knows you are moving.

Think I got mine from ebay.

Would have thought oxygen sensors would have been needed as well.

Oh yea I have an oxygen sensor fitted.

Definitely look at getting a gps speed sensor.
How does it connect to the ecu?

The ECU will likely have a speed sensor input. Mount the GPS unit on the dash somewhere so it sees the sky.

Give it some ignition power and the output goes to the speed sensor input.

The ones I bought give the right number of pulses to be accurate for an LS1 ECU.

But the research I did says the ECU doesnt actually care what speed it is doing, it just wants to know if the vehicle is moving.

I have no idea whether or not that is the case with the Haltech though.

If I was in your position though, I would be ringing Haltech to try to get some advice.

If you have the right questions, most places, regardless of industry will give you some good info.

With the oxygen sensor, any data collected should give you good AFR readings.

Again, with the research I have been doing, I have found that the AFR data is the most important data to read.

Getting it wrong does one of 2 major things.

It can increase your fuel consumption way beyond what it should be.

Or, you will be driving around with a potential hand grenade under the bonnet.

Cheers

Get it running.

Get a laptop if you havent already got one.

Mission Australia stores usually have refurbed laptops ex government at good prices.

If you know someone with a healthcare card the cost is even less.

Load up the software from the site if you dont have the CD.

Plug it all in and go for a drive.

I dont think you could do any worse than the tuner has done already.

Cheers

Rob
