I had a new set of suspension bushes from restocounrty spares pressed into the rear suspension components

 

Has anyone had the issue where the bolts now wont fit into the new bushes

 

Is the solution simply to drill out new bushes with slightly larger drill bit ?

 

Thanks for any suggestions

I checked the bolts on mine and they wouldn't fit before pressing them in. I was advised to drill them out which was easy and all good so far.  Half inch drill bit was spot on.

That’s strange! I purchased the Mackay ones ,I would have thought those Kingswood Country ones would have been the same.

Yes I have tried all the rear suspension bolts and nearly all the bushes that been pressed in wont allow the bolts to go in .

 

I didnt hammer them in as I didnt want to damage the threads

That is pretty shithouse if they are undersized.

 

I would just make sure it isn't a burr on the edge (countersinking tool should clean it up in 1 second) and if it's still tight, then yeah, drill it out to 1/2" as the others have said.

Pressing them in shouldn't have made any difference to the I.D. of that tube. It would have been too tight even before you installed them I imagin, if they're tight now.

 

Make sure you coat those bolts in a thin layer of copper anti-seize before insertion, particularly as you'll be losing any zinc coating that's on the crush-tubes by drilling them out.

They re definetely undersize - ran a 1/2 inch drill through and shaved off a small amount of metal all the way through on every bush

Yep. I feel that I may have actually encountered this problem with some bushes myself at one point as well.

 

Lousy, but easily overcome. Good stuff mate.

Probably because you cant buy imperial sized tube any more.

But you would think the manufacturer of the product would make them fit for purpose by drilling them out before being packaged and sold.

The inner sleeves in those bushes are rolled from a piece of flat sheet so they should be made to suit.

Just thought I'd post up my Holden bush as a reference. Notice it a full tube.

I've also seen Mackay Bushes with rolled flat bar tube and with a tube.
