The LH SLR is finally getting the treatment I feel it deserves with new paint and very minor panel.

It was a very original SLR 6cyl Manual in Deauville blue with chamois/ covent houndstooth interior.

I have a posted about this before however mixed into a CK resto thread. I'm separating that now to give it some of its own history here.

I'm changing a couple of things on it so no longer super original but I'm just not that romantic about 6's in the bigger Torana's.

- engine: was 6. I have 75 HR prefix 253 ready and a 75 HT prefix 308. The 308 came with its original car which I'm trying to have verified and previous owners to find tags as it's a genuine SLR5000. If they can't, that engine may find its way into this old girl but 253 for now.

- Diff/ trans: original diff. I may LSD it but whatever in the shed really.

- Exhaust: I'm going single. Sound better

- interior: restored as per original covers supplied by Cools. Cheers Steve it looks mint!

- body/ paint: original colours with minimal rust repair. SLR badge at rear, Torana boot and frond gaurd badges welded. No flairs and front Torana badge remains

- Misc: Round LH L34- LX headlight conversion (sorry hate LH rectangular) and maybe LX SLR mirrors however most likely LH mirrors remain.

All of what I'm changing is reversible and minor. It's taking all of my energy not to flare it :)

Hi mate. I have 5 on the shelf. You want me to send you one? It took me 9 to make 4 good ones so have a few about.
Look after me with the 15's 😀

Get those hubcaps somewhere safe David.

Yes mate, they were wrapped so the photo has me a little worried. I'll follow up with the painter.

Very nice plans. A few tasteful changes is certainly the go.

I just loooove this colour and trim combo.

Thanks Heath, it's a cracking combo. They definitely had these cars nailed in the 70's!!

Mad if you don't.

And solid mount that LH steering rack while you're at it... And drop the inner upper arm mounts on the K-Frame... make sure the bearings in the column are in nice condition, and wind some proper castor into it. Bring that shitty LH front end to life!  :D

I loved it with the patina.
I also love it fresh.

Also, that's a pretty good turn-around for paint work! :D

Are you going to do the L31 or L34 blackout paint scheme?

Hi mate, I didn't know there was a difference between the LH SLR and L34 exterior blackouts

I'm going to reinstate how it was originally

Looking at some original L34's they don't have their lower sills, lower rear qtrs & lower front done. I reckon it looks better with the lowers done :o

Looks fine either way, but of course if you have the blackouts at the bottom and you add flares it looks bloody awful. That's why the L34 just had it all in body colour along the sides.

(same as why Holden deleted the side warpaint on the LX SLR 5000 when they made the A9X sedan)
