Hi all,

Looking for some guidance/ideas.  I'd love to keep the majority of the SLR Aesthetic in my LX Torana, however I'd also love the modcons of;

- A/C (under dash unit to be sourced from Speedy Air Spares) and install of central Air vents ala Hatchbacks

- Radio Head unit - I'd like a vintage/retro style as similar to original as possible, but with added bonus of Blutooth (similar to https://au.directnin...BCABEgIm_vD_BwE)

- Windscreen Wipers (ability to utiise existing knob, but installing a potentiometer for the Intermittent and the low/fast selector) any tips or success stories?

- Drink holders into the console (change out console or modify existing?)

- Electric Windows with the selector mechanism in the arm rest

- Modern Dash in original styled cluster (sky is the limit with this one due to the large amounts of aftermarket options) any advice?

- Central Locking (any particular style I need to lock for?)

- Remote Boot Entry (I know there are threads for this, but unsure whether it survived the Photobucket purge)

Any other things I've overlooked to greatly improve the driving experience I should be considering?

Cheers in advance.

You mostly mentioned interior but figured with all those mod cons you’d like power steering. As much as I like original and trying to keep mine that way, those power steering kits do sound good . I haven’t driven mine in 20 over years but still remember how heavy the steering is.

Absolutely. I intend to enjoy every minute of driving in every possible scenario, Power Steering definitely fits that bill.

Many of the original photos stopped working about 10 years ago. I had a copy of the power windows photos at the time so I re-hosted them on my website.

Looking through your wish list Liam I had to smile as my Toranas have most of the items listed except for power windows. However one big mod you haven't listed is E.F.I

I didn't put EFI on my cars for any other reason then drive ability. No more hard hot or cold starts, no more fowled plugs if I my son didn't get the cold start right , controls idle perfectly and automatically bumps it up when the A/C cuts in, controls timing and can set any curve I want in seconds, got rid of the choke cable, safe guards engine through electronic monitoring control, can read live data and capture parameters in real time, total adjustability to suit my driving and car, input & output configuration and control, and the least of my concerns was economy but has of course improved this as well.

After market EFI has come leaps and bounds over the past ten years. I fitted mine and found it very easy to install and setup. The kits today are super reliable, I would never go back to a carby engine again. The only thing in my life with a carby these days is my go karts and the whipper snipper.

Hey Lenny,

Will be running an LS1/2 so EFI is 100% going to be utilised. I agree with everything you have said there.

So has anyone had any success stories for A/C etc. Who did you use?  Was it easy to install? Any finished pictures?

My car has a cup holder in the console, digital gauges that look original (I can supply these in a kit or turn-key form that looks as close to original as anyone's), intermittent wipers (infinitely adjustable), and a modern heater box with A/C evaporator in it. It also has EFI, some interior lighting improvements, and a decent stereo that looks original, with bluetooth etc.

The only things I don't have is electric windows and powered door locks/keyless entry - I didn't want those things on this car.

Everything looks pretty much factory. Maybe spend some time reading my build thread. People seem to enjoy it.

I have been through your thread several times but didn’t see that part with interior upgrades, might probe your genius a bit more sometime about that. I will just have to read it again for the 9th time

I ain’t worried about weight though, I just want a modern car in 70’s skin.

Get your starter issues sorted?

Unfortunately, it's all kind of spread randomly through the thread. But yeah I have ambient lighting in the shifter area, a single cup holder, and all that shit. The gauges are super nice, I've got another 7x sets of Speedhut gauges for Toranas on the way from the U.S.A. currently. And I've got all the conversion bits. Same as what I have in my car, but yellow or white design (rather than orange).

Well you don't want a modern car in 70's skin! Mine is a muscle car through and through, but it has some (weight-conscious) luxuries.

Replacement starter works mostly, but still makes some yuck noises that may be caused by a voltage drop to the solenoid. Might benefit from a relay, or a re-co of the ignition switch.

And no doubt that monster of a car is perfect for you right now. I want to enjoy this with my family every chance I get. I loved your thread and takes on so many different things. Happy to rummage through it all again .

I’ve seen some interesting centre consoles which integrates a handbrake and cup holders etc.

I’ve got an SLR cluster that I’m looking to move on and just get a regular one to modify.

something im looking into is electric a/c.

they do cost a bit and need big alternator for power draw

but you can mount compressor anywhere, doesnt suck power from engine.
