have a old smooth case 3 speed here that i have just started working and noticed there is a switch on the 2-3 selector .

Is it supposed to have one ? thought only later boxes got them

also notice there is no flat spot on the shaft for the switch to work compared to the 4 speed

I'm guessing the gearbox is a bitsa

Picture is of the cover off the 3 speed

I put a smooth case one in a car just last week or I could have checked the part number, but definitely no switch on the selector shafts. Would have commenced in HX 1977.

That 2-3 shaft is from an early gearbox. It has an o-ring & no cut-out for the switch.

The later shaft requires no o-ring because there is a proper seal in the gearbox, which you can see in the pic.

that makes sense,  might have at look at making a new cover or just making a bush so its not seal on seal

Just find the right fit HK to HJ side cover off a 3spd or 4spd. Still heaps around.
