Nice one. VK GroupA is certainly a car to admire. It was the most powerful and fastest factory Holden car since HT-HG GTS350. Pretty sure it’s the only carbied V8 fitted to a GMH production car with a performance camshaft.

Is the ex cop car a 308 or 304? As in VT or VA/VB prefix

Hey mate how are you good I hope it’s a march 84 bt1 308 VT engine …. It goes not bad for a 308 Aussie 4 speed just a bit to fix up on the inside and down the track I will paint it again…. How is the yellow Hk going mate..

If it's the high output engine (V5H) only available in a manual, they were basically an L34 engine but with the better HJ onwards camshaft and a little less compression (9.2:1) plus standard rocker gear. B cast heads, modified intake under the carby, X rods and the carby setup right. Possibly some ignition changes. The only rating I have ever seen for it was 180kW @ 4750rpm and 430Nm @ 3500rpm, all DIN ratings with HDT exhaust as the engine was the optional engine on a VH GroupIII (VH GroupIII was standard with 4.2). It'd be less with the stock VK exhausts. I have also seen 177kW @ 4800rpm and 419Nm @ 3500rpm quoted for the VK Group III.

The standard VH-VK L31 (also 9.2:1) with factory dual exhaust was 126kW @ 4400rpm and 361Nm @2800rpm.

The VC prefix A9L engine in the VK GroupA was only 8.8:1 probably courtesy of the pistons sitting further down the bore, but it was good for 196kW @5200rpm and 418Nm @ 3600rpm, courtesy of the bigger cam and other mods to suit it.

The Aussie 4spd won't last too long of you give it a hard time! Might be best looking for a T5 replacement, copying what the GroupA had.

H is happening slowly, been working on setting up the Ram and selling the Hilux. Hilux will be gone soon so will have shed room back for the HK work.

Will be back on it this year I hope, at least on the yellow 5Litre car. I had to put it up on the hoist and pack heaps of stuff under it while I've had the Ram and the Hilux so no room to play with it. Have to finish the 377ci SBC, get the TH350C built to handle it and get the A/C into it. All without drilling any new holes in the body itself. Front end and diff plus fuel system are sorted, just not in the car yet as I can't move under the hoist!

I may have tracked down the original engine for the yellow GTS327 too, will be looking at what I've found in the next few weeks. Won't ever go in the car though, plan always for a BBC in that one.

I got this delivered last January and its taken me a year to get it up to scratch with all the wiring, Laramie uConnect screen, UHF, batteries, inverter, suspension, canopy, bar, winch etc etc. Photo is in Launceston Gorge carpark a month ago. Other one is how its setup in the back for coffee on the run.

Dumb luck. I always knew roughly where it ended up from the guy who made it into a speedway car back about 1975. Taken me a long time to follow leads. I don’t know what the original number is exactly, but I’ll know it when I see it. The GTS327 and the 5litre car are just over 40 Pagewood HK chassis numbers apart and I know it’s engine number, and given how Pagewood numbers work it’ll be within 20 numbers of it.

I had a good dig around trying to find the Cerulean Blue material to re do the front seats in my Group A, but had no luck. If you happen to come across a good supply, I will be very interested in purchasing some.

Wow. 11K for a VK interior???  I have sent them a message asking if they will sell just enough material to do the front seats. I also wonder how good their Herringbone is as I have seen some that isn't identical to the original.

Lot of money I know, but when a restored car is pulling over $200k I guess it adds up!
