Update car is engineered and registered now

It has been a long and arduous process

Everyone has had an opinion and quoted different rules regarding what is and isn’t required in Western Australia to retro fit a V8 into a 6 cylinder Torana

Perseverance pays off

Well done!

Was it a matter of finding the right engineer and/or the right person at the registration end of the process?

Car required a 17 page report submitted to DOT for a pretty well stock standard 308 conversion into a LX Torana
Everyone wants a pound of flesh
Personally after what I have witnessed now I don’t think I would go through with this process again
Doesn’t matter what Engineer or Engineering has been done previously in any other state when it hits WA start again

Do you have an old rego paper Brad?  Is the BODY plate attached to the car? Is the Chassis number legible?

if the car was rego'ed with the mods

before the engineering codes came into effect

you shouldn't have to go through engineering

but they change their minds all the time

can't put a 5lt in a FC now but can in an lc

they have the curb weight as over 1100kg  :fighting:  :wtf:  :stirpot:

LC XU1 was 2417lb Curb Weight at release, but it was not revised in later 1971 when the Aussie 4spd replaced the Philippines box.

2417lb is 1096.3kg.

Curb weight is car full of fuel and water.

So not sure where they got the 1100kg plus from. LJ XU1 was 2440lb Curb, which is 1106.8kg.

I was holding off to comment until my modified vehicle was licensed in WA. It got licensed Thursday just gone, heavily modified. The whole process was a piece of cake. Follow VSB14, if you are not sure consult your engineer or someone that actually has been through the process and knows, not a mate of a mate.

I was lucky a forum member here is very generous with his time, knowedgeable, was able to help me when unsure and give me some tips that made my build much neater, saved me money, supplied some components, saved me time and me overthinking.

Having been through the process I am happy to share what I have learnt with fellow forum members,

275 kms put on the odometer since Thursday, hopefully many more to come.

This Sunday starting at 9 am the GTR Torana XU1 car club of WA will have our cars out the front of the Whiteman Park motor museum my XU1 and modified build will be there as well come down and say hello.

How long will you guys be at Whiteman Park?  I am heading home from Bunno, but won't get up that way until mid afternoon.
