No I was talked out of 2k by MRLXSS, Rodomo and a couple of non-forum member friends. Lets me do a lot more of it myself.

Not sure how much of it I will be doing myself so far, but I'm feeling quite satisfied that I have done all the filling work on my car myself, I would have loved to do all of the welding myself but at the time I didn't have the skills. A bit of a shame but at least now I have learnt enough in that area to go out and do it all myself on my other car :stirpot:
That will come later on...

Will try and get some snaps tomorrow before I go out and celebrate a hard week's work at one of my best mate's birthday's :)

I will definately have to get my spraying abilities up to scratch very quickly if I am to spray the top coat myself lol, and at least sort out this gun!!! I don't know what adjustments I can make to produce a bigger spray pattern and more rich mixture. I am using a 2mm needle, spray regulator and air cap so it should be firing like a cannon :fool:

When I have some decent light I will have a squiz at the results I got from my spraying tonight hehe

Chopper hehe I am not expecting to have it finished but I should be working with high fill all through next week and there is no reason the sections I want won't be ready for paint by next weekend. Will have to buy top coat, clear and get a big compressor sorted amongst other things before the top coat can be applied though.

I think my hard work has paid off, and my laziness earlier on in the piece has hindered me greatly.

Why didn't I just do all this when I was 14 and my time wasn't at all important? If I take as many hrs as this to do the bodywork on a car in 10 years time, I would need to spread the time out over like three years hahaha at least on holidays I do get a lot of free time.

oh tell me bout it! ive had mine since i was 15 (now 20!). time didnt mean a thing back then but there was one thing holding me back... money! haha. now i am earning money, but little time to work on the car! always a catch22... my plans were to have mine in some sort of paint like yours by the end of the holidays but im still well deep into the rust removal. its all worth it in the end :D

Where did you end up getting your paint from heath?

In regards to the mixtures, that all should happen before the paint goes in the gun! Are you mixing the required Paint to Thinners Ratio?

I do about 50-50 if i want a thick primer... Or Normal is 40 paint - 60 thinners...

If you maybe take a pic of the gun, we might be able to help you out and tell you what all the knobs do...

Spraying is fun and easy! Get to it!

Doing it all yourself is awesome but it takes forever. I'm ashamed to say that it took me a year to paint my car flat black  Thats doing everything on my own though. Also because I was learning, I ended up redoing almost everything atleast once. Now I kind of know what I'm doing so I'll eventually respray mine again properly.

Cheers
Marty

Matt, I mean air:paint mixture mixture. I am running about 40% Thinners as that was what I was recommended at PaintMobile in northcote/preston, where I got my paint from.

I've got a rough idea of what everything does but not 100%.

I believe the thing next to the air feed is like an alternate pressure regulator that I probably don't need.
Lower knob on the back adjusts the movement of the needle but I haven't got my head around that properly yet.
Top one is like the mixture I think, because by adjusting that I can change it from virtually shooting no paint out to getting a decent amount but not really enough to do flat panels...

It came with a pamphlet that doesn't tell me much too

Yours is different to mine.... But i would suggest just experimenting on something and seeing what each of them do.... What pressure are you spraying at? I spray between 35-40psi

It was good from far but far from good. It was the original paint and it was very tired. The problem was i stripped it down to have it professionally resprayed, didn't have the cash to have it done and I'd gone too far to put it back together as it was, plus I'd replaced doors so it would've looked like a rainbow car. So I didn't really have a choice but to spray it. If I could go back in time I would have done things very differently!

I've got a cheap Superworks gun with a 2.0mm nozel. Seems to work quite well. Mine has a knob on the side which controls the spray fan. The one in that pic has 2 controls at the back where as mine only has the one. I'm guessing that one should be the fan and the other should be the paint flow (and air flow at the bottom).

Just get some scrap panels and have a play around. Once you get the right mixtures, get a texta and mark your settings on the threads so you stay consistant.

Cheers
Marty

The top knob is the spray fan(winding it shut will narrow he fan and unwinding it will widen the fan to an extent) and the middle big one is for the needle like you said, the further back you can pull the trigger the more paint it will let out, the bottom one is air pressure and you dont need so just open it up(leave loose). If your gun isnt spraying a wide fan make sure you pot can breath in air, as the paint leaves it needs to suck in air and if the breather is blocked your fan will be narrow then non existant.

Heath get my number of Rick and call me mate and i can help you on the phone pretty easy.

John

My shitbox (present, i would have bought something of acceptable quality) compressor just blew up, while I was spraying my roof. Just what I needed.

Just take it back and get another one. That brand is what I call "disposable".
You next one might last forever.

Heath, what "blewup" on your compressor, if its eletrical i probably cant help,
however ive got one of those direct drive cheap compressor (and a puma for painting) and every summer this thing seizes (must be too hot here) so i just pull the air filter off and give it some lubricant like crc and then as i wind it over (screwdriver on the eletric fan) i put some air tool oil in it and let it cool for 10 min and away she goes and ive done that about 3 years now,
try it, it may work

It sounded really bad mechanically. Like it dropped a rod kinda thing only this is obviously only a one cylinder motor. It sounds to me like it is completely f*cked.

That's... very suprising. Are you sure?

Did you cruise past late this arvo to look if I was working on the car? haha
I saw a vehicle that matched yours as I walked out, but it may have been a worker having a geeze at the hard rubbish shit I put out the front :P
