That's... very suprising. Are you sure?

Did you cruise past late this arvo to look if I was working on the car? haha
I saw a vehicle that matched yours as I walked out, but it may have been a worker having a geeze at the hard rubbish shit I put out the front :P

Mrs RoDoMo got me a drill for Christmas that is far too big for my needs. She has thrown the receipt out and I asked in the tool shop and they said yep, no worries.

Yes it was me that drove past watching nobody doing anything on your car.

If you tell them it was recieved as a gift Heath sometimes they will bend their must have receipt policy (depends a bit if you get a plays exactley by the rules take my job seriously type or a I only work here to collect a pay check one a bit too). Also most places view an exchange different to a refund regarding the need of a receipt. Its always worth a try worst they can do is say nope bugga off.

God, I've been back 4 pages but no pics?

:useless:

I noted that you were advised 40% thinners. No where near enough for acrylic. Try 40% paint. A more sure way is to pour in thinners till just before the paint stops flowing off the mixing stick and beads. Beading is too thin, so add more paint to thicken up so it still streams off the mixing stick. A good amount of thinners will help the paint to flow and reduce orange peal, which will reduce sanding/blocking. I'm not sure of this, but I"m also advised that higher the thinner content, higher the gloss level, but not at all sure about this. The next thing I want to try, particularly with the higher temperatures, is retarder (you don't need much) to help the paint flow out a bit more before setting.

With that gun you should only need 40PSI or less pressure, i.e. your compressor shouldn't be running constantly when spraying.

I think you'll find the guage/pressure regulator thing is actually a water trap. It should have a valve on the bottom to let out the moisture under pressure. Needs to be kept vertical to work properly.

No paint: This is normally blocked relief valve to the paint pot. To test loosen off lid to paint pot and try spray. For the gravity feet gun you have, it should be a bit of plastic in the top of the lid. As I found out recently, this needs to be fully pulled apart and cleaned. Sloshing thinners around it don't cut it.

Oh, forgot to add. Stick with it, doing a whole car is the best way to learn to spray. Just don't be shy to try adjusting settings and stuff on the early coats and experiment a bit with full knowledge that you might need to sand some experiments back here and there.

Play with:- Air pressure, paint control, fan shape (only requires very fine adjustments, not far from small fan shape), paint mixture (thinners:paint). You should find a combination that suits your painting action.

Sure does Matt, you were right there. Now I am really seeing exactly how some of my repairs aren't spot on. I am aiming to fix most of them today (just got up, lazy me :P)

haha that is very true Brett, and thanks a bunch for getting those springs! Just let me know when you're gonna be in the area and I'll have some cash waiting, you're a champ mate

Believe it or not Herne, at the time when I was posting those threads, it was my most productive session of working on the car I've had (I just came in and posted in my regular breaks because I was getting dehydrated so often :P). lol cheers

Yeah Toryman it shouldn't be too long before I get some top coat on. Probably a week or two from now? Hopefully it will last that long in primer. If you look closely in those pics, there are unfinished repairs that I can see better now that I need to fix up before I apply any green.

Thanks guys!

Some advice (not that im any expert) move your regulator back to the compressor , it wil be much easier on your wrist and a little lighter,
And you could spay water around and under your car to settle the dust before painting ,
and its great to see you using PPE (cause i neva do)

Yeah I don't run anything like that on my gun, but it does have a built in regulator (not something that I use).

Didn't wet it down because I wasn't spraying anything very close to the ground. Will do it all for top coat

lol not Rego'd or fully assembled. Getting the motor to run well and getting all the windows in, doors on etc will be the hard part I believe.

For F*** sake, let us know when your next working on it, even if i
am just watching and learning it would be good experience.
(especially with the engine stuff, or even just getting it together for
drag day)

Looking forward to more pics
