Already kinda taken atm Rob.

re: start again

Well one thing I can confidently say is that I have learnt a shitload and I could do it a lot quicker and better (and less times LOL) if I were to start again but I wouldn't have the motivation to do this car twice within two years or so. How long did you take the first time around, Matt?

Take it easy Heath, you dont have unrealistic expectations mate its just the way it works.

My torana was ment to be on the rd within 3 months of when i brought it and 8 years later its still only about 70% completed.

SHIT HAPPENS dude dont stress.

If you want i can come give you a hand this weekend mate as iv been feeling alot better and am able to help out if needed, just let me know.

Heathy, buy some motorbikes and forget about it for a while.

Or get another side project.

Seriously, i get so bored having only one thing on the go at any one time.

Thats why i built the ZZR 600 as a side project, and im going for a test ride tomorrow and will probably be coming home with another (very very expensive) toy by the end of the day.

The Torana will go on the back burner, again.

But, when i get the loan im getting about 8 grand extra to pump into the Torana :P. Should be seeing some progress soon.

Basically dude calm down, get something else to do for a while. Forget the bloody drag day. Just relax, smell the roses, enjoy the build. Deadlines are terrible things. I dont even pay attention to the bastard things at work lol.

Cheers.

Your right about the motorbikes bomber! If I didn't have my bike to thrash I think i'd go insane! I think I'd have hooning withdrawals

Don't feel so bad heath, I'm in the same boat... I keep cutting my plans in half and i still never make it to that light at the end of the tunnel. It's bullshit. I've made so many mistakes along the way, if I started from scratch knowing what i know now i feel like it would be a 6 month job.

You just have to step away from it every now and thing to keep your sanity. Save some cash thing hook into it again for a while and so on.

Keep your head up mate

Cheers.

Well one thing I can confidently say is that I have learnt a shitload and I could do it a lot quicker and better (and less times LOL) if I were to start again but I wouldn't have the motivation to do this car twice within two years or so. How long did you take the first time around, Matt?

First Time for me heath, took about 2 years...

I bought my car February 2003, And i got the car registered November 2004. So it took me sbout 22 Months to get on the road.

Maddys car, We started April 06, Got it registered June 2007, So that one took us about 15 months.

And the last build took me Two months to strip, body work and paint...

So you get better with time, You learn what to do, and what not to do. Your car is never far off completion... Just depends what you want out of it.

In comparison, my mate got an XY falcon around the same time i bought my hatch back in 2003. He has spent double what i have spent (And thats adding both my builds together) and his car is still yet to be registered! (To be honest, my 2nd build has turned out better than his is now)

Surely your car cannot be that bad! Is your bonnet straight? Roof Straight? Boot Lid Straight? There is HALF your car ready! Your nose cone would take 2hrs to get looking good, even if it was shagged!. If your doors are so rooted, get some new ones (Maddy has a drivers and rear drivers door in mint julep that she is gonna sell, they are straight, bit of rust in the frame, but that is easy to fix compared to the skins!!

Looking at your pics, your rear qtrs don't seem too bad, and to be honest, if you put enough high fill on and get smooth and doesn't have any noticeable f*ck ups, (yes the trained eye will see it, but who cares! its a torry!!)

Mate, Chin up! your not even 18 yet! So not having a car at a drag day is not the end of the world!!

dunno bout you guys but this works for me. Have a couple of beers. Not too many though. But a couple of beers, and standing there just looking at whatever it is you need to do/get inspiration for. After a little while, you will see things that need doing or that you would like to do, and it will psych you up to get them done. Before you know it you're elbows deep and making progress!

I wish I had one of those little space-doing things so I could gap my plugs.

Their feeler gauges Heath!
The spec for the standard plug is 0.28" to o.32" (28 to 32 thou)
Hacksaw blades are basically the same spec, i used to use them all the time on my standard engine with standard dissy spark plugs, does the job

What should I do? Sorry about the pessimistic responce... sometimes I just want to forget about cars

It's good to have a vent, :furious: now get back under it and finish the sucker :spoton:

Cheer up heath!
Your doing well for someone of your age/expereince and with
the facilities you have.

It sounds like you will have a few people to help you out this weekend, so
there is still a chance you can get it to the drag day.
If not, it aint the end of the world and you have already learned
a shitload from the process.

Heath, you should try rebuilding a car with my injuries. On a bad day, I can't even pick up my car keys with my left hand. Having to raise two kids on my own for the last 13 years doesn't exactly help either.

Chop, all due respect mate, but you winge a bloody lot.

Every time someone has the slightest problem, you better it.

Ok, ok, your sore, your worse off than the rest of us, we all got the point, we all got the point years ago. No need to drag every thread in the dam forum down with it.

Back to topic, Rodo, where are we gonna find heath a chick??? I know a couple who would probably do him, but there not really worth freighting that far to be honest. I've gotta get motivated to drive 5 minutes to give em one.

Do you know any? And while were on the topic, know any worth shipping up here?????

Cheers.

Chop I do pity your injuries greatly but you can be a real drainer around here. Sorry mate

BTW the back of the doors are in primer. Should squirt some colour on them tomorrow arvo, along with some other sections of the car.

Take your time and get the car looking the way you want and if you miss the drag day ...bad luck . get it right 1st time instead of rushing it and regreting it ... there will be another drag day next year,

ive had my hatch stripped and ready for sand blast for well over a year now, but shit happens (moved house, rellos die, and kids need new everything etc) i know how frustrating it is but.... take your time
