I always approach springs with a certain amount of reservation.

If its a standard height spring i'll always use compressors, but with lowereds you usually only need a trolly jack and a few stands.

The biggest thing with anything like that is to go real slow, and if anything feels wrong then stop, step back, and re asses the situation.

Paint the front.

Do you have any form of compressors heath?

To get Maddys (Daily Drivers) Springs in, we compressed them with compressors out of the car, then wrapped them up in Fencing wire, then put them in place, bolted it all up and cut the wire out! Was a long process but it finally worked...

Oh, Paint the front!

Nah I don't have any spring compressors. I remember you telling me about the fencing wire idea, but I kinda didn't want that much potential energy being supressed by a questionable execution of wrapping etc haha. The one I was looking at at Rob's place probably would have worked quite nicely...

lol T

Trolley Jack!! not that hard..

What have you got against me? I don't spam any thread that mentions or relates to you with stupid comments or abuse, if you don't want to stop being a 10 year old, fu*k off.

I used a trolley jack, obviously, what did you think I used? With MY springs, I was not able to get them in the position that I wanted, I haven't insulted or questioned anyone's technique or advice, hell I didn't even ask for advice on the installation of them, I just went and did it and found that my lowered springs aren't short enough to just fit in properly with that method, I could have put another pair of springs that I had in (that were thicker and shorter) comfortably, but they are not the springs that I wanted in my car. It's not a topic for argument; it simply doesn't work, I didn't do anything wrong, I am over it, and don't mind pulling it apart later on down the line and having a tinker if the problem doesn't rectify itself

And if anyone is interested, enjoy

Bought the springs off brett_32i actually. I don't know whether they were cut or off-the-shelf items.

If the springs are not seated properly Heath, you could be putting yourself or any others that ride in your car in danger, If one of your shockers are stuffed it can affect the steering, braking, etc, so if the springs are not installed correctly, It's dangerous.

I don't have a problem with you but i certainly will have if you tell me to F*ck off again. you certainly can dish it out but can't take it!

Man, I don't wanna join forces or nothin. But both of you harden up. Darren i've seen you winge about Heath (and your reasons for doing so were justified as Heath was being a prick to some other guy) in the shoutbox, and like I told you last time, you must meet him in person before you judge him on the screen. He's not that bad.

He dishes it out good, but doesn't attack one person and never harshly means what he says.

[EDIT] Heath, like I said, if you need a hand with getting it sitting correctly come round to my place.

Heath, that spring doesnt look right.

And i agree with darrenmark1, fix the bloody thing before you hurt someone.

Relax, and fix that before you paint the front.

Cheers.

They look like standard 6 cylinder springs with a little over one coil cut off.

Uhu, I cant say i have seen every non standard Torana spring ever manufactured but i have never seen one with the top coil like that.

Personally i would not use that spring.

Well Darren, at least you stopped being a 10 year old, so I'm more than happy for you to discuss things in this thread now :)

DJ, what can you see that's wrong with the spring? You do realise they are upside down in that photo, right? The only observation that I made was that the end didn't get as close to the next coil as the standard springs, but other lowered springs I've seen aren't hugely different anyway

Why are my shocks apparantly stuffed?

Heath when I change springs I drop the shockie out and use a bit of hi tensile threaded rod with steel plates and nuts to compress the spring, then i remove ball joint and change spring.. pretty quick and no danger to you that way

and please adjust your doors, I dont give a stuff about the paint would just like to make sure the doors are closing properly, if I lived in Melbourne I would come over and do them for you.

lol i can only adjust the front door, and I know I have to do that I just have to get off my arse. The other one, even with the striker removed, won't close any further, and i adjusted it forward with the intention of allowing it to close further into the jam, and it did nothing. Might need to 'enlarge' the adjusting hole for the striker

I think everyone needs to go get themselves a bourbon and chill the f$&k out. Hay Heath if you need a hand let me know. I should be able to get a hold of some spring compressors if you need em. Take your time painting the front as it's not painting weather right now. Do it right the first time. Anyway my 2 cents worth I'm going to the fridge for another bourbon.
Cheers everyone

Mate, the main thing i can see that i dont like about that spring is the fact that the bottom coil (top in the pick) sits to far away from the next lower coil where it ends, unlike standard or most other after market springs that either sit very close or contact.

My concern with this is if it is sitting like that then all the weight will be pushing down on to small of an area in your lower control arm, instead of being spread around the circumference of the spring (and the spring seat) as was originally intended.

Why are my shocks apparantly stuffed?

Im wondering the same thing?? Where did that come from?

Sure, I thought the same thing as I started compressing the spring after I stuck it in, but by the time I had actually lifted the lower wishbone high enough for the ball joint to bolt up again, it had compressed enough for a fair diameter of the spring to be 'seating' nicely, so it wasn't just resting on the point (of course if it were resting on the point, it would be trying to puncture the lower wishbone and distorting the spring simultaneously, after having a close look at it, that problem doesn't seem to be apparant at all). This will be better again when I can make sure they are sitting spot-on in the bottom of the wishbone. I think the main thing that this 'problem' is causing is that my car isn't sitting as low as it could. That is not a huge concern of mine :P

I love it how a bloke posted on the last page openly claiming that he cut the springs in his car, and no one even responded to him. People are so hesitant to contend with someone they're not familiar with
