Unless u have a shit load of cash/spare time, and good hookups
but yes also if its worth doing, its worth doing properly i hate it when people do a "complete" rebuild in a few yrs and then 5yrs later the paint is coming off, or theres rust etc

This always gives me the shits.

I did my torry in 8 months, its been nearly 5 years and its still fine.

I didnt spend a shitload of cash, I didnt have a whole lot of time (well, compared ot now I did, but i wass still going to school etc etc)

I did have friends in the industry, but all that did was save me some cash (and it wasnt a grand amount either)

You dont need to spend 50k and 10 years to do things properly.

I know people that could spend 10yrs building a car, and still not do it properly :D

I don't really think the number of years "in the build" is always going to be relative to the hours spent "actually" working on the car ???

+1

while yes...'if its worth doing, its worth doing properly etc etc'...i agree with,
but i really wouldnt go calling any build under 10yrs a waste of time, people like Heath, myself, and im sure many others, just want to enjoy driving our toranas!! Yea Heaths LX isnt panel perfect, but who cares?! We love it, If we didn't, there wouldnt be a 52page thread on it! Ask Heath if it was 'worth doing'...!!
Cheers mate

Wasn't having a dig at anyone's project taking less than 10yrs to complete, more the fact that mine has taken more lol.

and VC commo's...I had one in my VC 6 Cyl race car, the box was second hand when I bought the car and I did 26 race meetings with that box fitted. I broke 3 axles in the time I had the car, which was more from the diff being locked etc. ....so dont knock the gearbox as it held up fairly good. Motor by the way was a red 6 cyl with triple webers etc. :) I reved it to 6 grand(+) in every gear all day...

Everyone seems to bag the shit out of them, with no experience. The only person on this forum I've heard sticking up for them is Keithy with the blue UC who ran pretty quick times with one (original box for the car) behind his six. My box is very second hand but it is still FANTASTIC to drive, even with stuffed synchros... just gotta use your pedals properly and it's sweet :)

Terry, I think you could have worded that post a lot better mate.

I think mumstaxi's comment also addressed an important point lol. Most of the cars that have been "off the road for 10 years" have been neglected for a good five. That represents no aspect of the quality of the build.

I am so f ucking sick of hearing arseholes preaching about how much money has to be put into a car to make it 'good'. Let's not talk about it here.

I was just planning on pouring it over the panels, and scraping the gravel up underneat where the paint has dripped off into it into the bucket and pouring that down the other side.

So you'd have sort of a "stone metallic" finish...... :tease:

Cool, might start a new trend Heath, could be a bit lumpy to polish tho ? (ha-ha)

Just need to pour over a few litres of clear so that the stone 'flake' is properly concealed before polishing

Something tells me it wouldn't look that good :P

I've spent quite a long time on this inlet manifold now lol, it's not "fully polished" in the nooks and crannies, but I'm quite satisfied with how it looks :)

Hey Heath,
I saw this and remembered you asked a question about those little things under the manifold.
Redline Torker 2
They look like an attachment for the 'heat transfer arms' to me.

Other than that I got no idea, never seen anything like it.

Are the 'heat transfer' arms just metal plates that hang down and touch the extractors? lol. Doesn't sound like a super effective means...

Thanks for the link mate!

To tell you the truth, Ive got no idea what they do, but that seems very reasonable. See the link for the pictures.
Makes sense, since the extractors would heat up quicker than the water flowing through the block, thus heating the manifold.
Google doesnt return anything either, but Im sure you've checked. :)

Cheers.

Yep they are definitely for heat transfer to help the fuel vaporise when the engine is cool.

On my Torry they touch the standard exhaust manifold to warm up the intake manifold.

Don't know if they do much, but thats the idea.
