I reckon we should fit up the polished billets off my hatchback one day, and get a photo. Just to see what it would look like with 16's under there!

But she's looking good as she is Heath. Good work getting it done in time for the Autobarn show, I finally got to have a good look over it, everything has come together really well.. :)

haha yeah they would be interesting Brett. I guess I might jump on a set of 15s or 16s if they came up for sale on the forum cheaply, but I don't really have an 'idea' of what I want. Obviously I quite like the wheels that are under it now, and they have their benefits (plenty of dish, nice flexible sidewall so comfortable ride, good grip, authentic to the era of the car etc)

Not a priority, but yeah I think it would make the car look more classy/showy with bigger chrome wheels.

Are you daily-ing this one heath?

The only benefit I can see of the larger wheels is cheaper/ more available tyres (15" and 16")

Looks good like it is though.

After the cruise yesterday I took the car back to Brad's joint and pulled it apart (convenient him being around the corner from my gas installer). We dropped the fuel tank out and I changed over to the Redline 2bbl manifold, removed pretty much everything that wasn't needed with the LPG system.

Posted Image

This morning I strapped it up for a quick flat-tow from my mate's ute and we dropped the car off. If all goes to plan I'll pick it up (running like a dream) on Friday arvo. Can't wait!

Cheers for the use of the garage mate!

When I get the car back I'm gonna clean up the engine bay and start doing sections of the underside.

Anybody want a standard fuel tank in good condition with a working sender, the straps and fasteners? $50

Single valve A90 in the boot with a custom bracket made of 6mm steel flat  lol

Under the bonnet is an aussie B2 feeding an Impco 1&20 300A (rated to above 200HP). There is a 300A=>4bbl Holley adapter, and then a 4bbl=>2bbl adapter, which is like a nice tall spacer plate, but if I was going for all out performance I would have done that a little differently - it will be okay for my current application though. The throttle body is from a 350 Holley and that's ontop of a Redline 2bbl manifold. Photo is a bit shit sorry

Why did I even say that? I jinxed myself

Lower adapter bolt pattern is wrong, it's for an IH Holley - why the hell they sell that and not an automotive 2B Holley in Australia is beyond me. So far I've removed some meat from where I don't need it and I should be able to fix it up tomorrow with the help of my mate and a TIG welder

*sigh*

Great to see the progress you've made Heath!
I had a good look at your car on Sunday and thought you've really stuck to your guns and produced a great, honest daily for a first car.
Now drop that front!!!

What a f*cken day.

Apparantly die-cast doesn't like to be welded so I got talked into making another (third) adapter out of some 6mm alloy plate. Will do the job but isn't what I had really hoped for

Well I ended up maintaining the threaded holes that were there, I just drilled them out and tapped them to M6 so I could use countersunk bolts in the adapter plate (needed to sit flush for the throttlebody surface & gasket to mate nicely)

NC milled out the two big circles for the throttlebodies

And yeah cleaned up the edges quickly and drilled and tapped whatever else needed to be done, and enlarged the holes on the throttlebody to fit M6 bolts through there too

if you dont mind me asking...how much is it costing for the gas set up heath?
and do you still get the government rebate?
i need a cheaper way of running the torana....might try the back to the future method of running it on garbage...failing that gas may be an option.

I think we'd all have to agree that Heaths work is to a high standard and very practical.
Plenty of professionals would have put the job off for days while they tried to order the correct parts.

Well the first thing I did was called up Impco and discussed it with one helpful bloke there (a few others I talked to were clueless) and spent some time looking all over the net at part numbers just to find out there was nothing available. I don't buy new stuff very often (I normally just get old shit and fix it for my application), but that experience made me understand what those guys were talking about in the thread a while ago "what don't you like about working on cars" when you order stuff and you get the wrong gear. The people who were finding these parts just did not have enough information to even know it was the wrong part, and jesus can it make things difficult

When you don't pay anyone to work on your car, and you don't rely on anyone else finding parts for your needs - you just research it and sort it out yourself - you can enjoy working on cars a LOT more. Sometimes that isn't possible though. I'd never experienced someone else's deadlines blowing out until yesterday

Thanks though Mick. Rob, LOL

I'll find out when I get the car back later on today I think. Installer is working today but I'm not sure if mine will be finished today - probably pick it up on monday otherwise but not sure.

Rebate in Victoria now is $1750, my installer is charing like $1760 for the work he is doing, but I went to him with my own tank, intake manifold, throttle body, adapter setup, mixer, converter etc. All he is providing is the lock offs, the lines, a few switches, testing the tank and the labour. So it is a fairly expensive process with this guy anyway (openly admits he is not cheap but his work is better). Fortunately I was given the aftermarket manifold from Courage, got the tank from a recycling depot (they were stoked that I took it away lol) & mixer for free because it came another component my mate bought off eBay, and I paid $30 for a 350 holley off wot179 for the throttlebody, and bought the other stuff new.

So for me it will cost a few hundred bucks all up after I get the rebate back, but there is a bit of a delay.

But I would not recommend that ANYONE tries to use a 300A on a two barrel holley. They are great mixers but in Australia they simply don't have the parts to put em on - go a 225 or if you have a four barrel baseplate use a 425 or a 300A.
