Nah dude they are just off the shelf whitewalls.

Yeah stripping the rubber back works but it's only good if you want wide bands (like obviously wider than the text is high, normally a significant increase), which I think don't really suit a Torana very well.

You can also turn them and machine a groove in the sidewall and paint that, but it dulls off with time, I think you end up paying like $30 a tyre and you can do different things with them (whatever colours & thicknesses you want). I don't think they look nearly as good though, that's what all the wogs have on their Commodores with dinnerplate chromies and dual coloured bands lmao

Yeah there are a few at TAFE with like 20" plastic looking chromies and they have red and blue bands right next to each other drawn onto the tyres, GAAAAAY

Whitewalls make wheels look significantly bigger than they already are, why you would put them on anything bigger than like a 16" is beyond me, even if they would look good otherwise

I may have missed something, but why did you swap the wheels?

Surely not just for lighter steering?

Looks good but they need more dish!

REFIT THE CHROMIES :tease:

Whitewalls and post-LC Toranas don't work IMO.

I think it is partially because frying Eagers ain't so cheap, and they are harder to get now production has ceased.(That and wanting to try another look). They do look and handle far better than the little skinnys though!

As above, I think it looks better with the chromies as well

Unless somebody wants to buy me some FR17s or something...

ROFL.

Fr17's would look nice but cost a bomb! Get something from Show wheels maybe? If i had the cash i'd get a set, but suspension & brake mods need to come first, then i can get rims to fit.

Cheers

Do they even still make them?

I have no intention of buying a brand new set of wheels it, I haven't even spent seven grand on this car, and I don't want to turn around and throw my tightarse efforts out the window by getting big wheels and then needing nice big brakes and this and that. I like the car the way it is and the suspension is set up appropriately for the wheel & tyre combo

I'll probably buy an expensive set of wheels for the other car, I don't want to spend more than another few grand on this car

You can't, but it can be used to grow something better lol. :-)

Most torries that are really sweet started off as rolling disasters!

Jump on the new eastside cruisers forum and the build is compressed into a few pages. Really easy to read compared to this lol !

I just read through this whole thread for the first time. The early section of the thread is just embarrassing. I was a bit of a dreamer back then and it was interesting watching my character evolve over the years by reading the thread, but WOW I received a lot of shit advice earlier on...

Put a smile on my face overall, at the end of the day it all worked out :)

I must say i was impressed with the car on Tuesday nite Heath, it really does look good mate. I bet it is satisfying have it on the road and enjoying crusing in it, especially when it costs nothing to run :)
