Hey Heath, nice job. Bet it was a piece of piss using the hoist eh. Mate i've just changed my diff from 2.78 to 3.36 also. Its amazing the difference when taking off, just it wont be as nice on the highway. I thought your car already had like a 3.08 or 3.36 centre but anyway... Um yeah I've got a couple of spare fine spline axles at home if you want me to bring them on the drag day. Also, you wouldn't be able to bring a couple of course splines in case I break any? Cos my centre is course spline but I havent got any spare axles for it. Anyway, good stuff! Really looking forward to the drag day now.

Hey, its funny how when you got that car going on petrol with the stromberg it when like crap and you thought the engine was on its last legs. But since the gas conversion and everything else its actually running awesomely. And yours actually handles!

Mike mate that sounds ideal mate. I'll chuck two course spline axles in and we'll be laughing.

The only way to find out how strong this motor actually is is to run it lol - not making any judgements until I get a timeslip. It does seem fine on the street though, and the only reason it handles is because of the tyres, centre of gravity and the falsely self-assured driver hahahahaha

Well Heath, I just read your thread from start to finish, how sad is it I have this much spare time at 12.52am : )

Good job man! I love budget builds. If people don't get inspired by someone like yourself doing everything themselves then there's no hope for them.

I like the mint julep colour. How do you reckon it would look on my brothers hatch?

Matt, the Brock only just managed to run below a 19, and that had no weight in it at all. I would be surprised if I cut a 16, but I suppose it's plausible.

Cheers dirtbag, that's awesome mate, takes a while hey? hehe. Remember I've had a lot of help with this project as well! But yeah try and do pretty much all I can. Still got a lot to learn!

Mint Julep is an awesome colour but it doesn't suit everything. I still reckon your brother's hatch would really pop if you painted it in some kind of metallic colour with some more depth, like the Atomic Green in the VE range (but you would probably want to tint it one way to make it a bit more different again). The HUE itself is pretty similar to MJ in some lights, but when you get up close it's still got the 'wow' factor that a solid colour can't really have.

You're learning the best way too, by putting your money where your mouth is and building cars

As for the VE green, I don't know about where you are but all the new commodore colours are spreading like herpes on all sorts of crap from civics to geminis. It's worse than the great tiger gold epidemic of the late 90s : )

I just like green on yours with the blackouts and chrome highlights. It's pretty much how my brothers car will be. I still think he should do the whole thing black : )

Nice job on the diff centre rebuild too :spoton:

Went to an exhaust shop yesterday and picked up a flange and a bit of bent pipe. Cut it to length today and welded it up. Photo is a bit average but you get the idea. All good to go for the drag day I think...

Having the turndown after that flange seems to have made it a bit quieter and there is virtually no drone at all now. Those judgements are just from inside the car, don't know about outside. And it kicks up the dust a bit lol at least I don't drive on dirt roads too often.

And I just had the car at the Eastside Weighbridge cruise, 1200kg exactly according to it. Stoked

Nice stuff Heath!! Mine weighed in at 1380kg today. Approx 1/4 tank of fuel - I'd estimate 40 litres or so.

Heath,

That's a pretty good figure man, depending on what ya motor is making, you might actually crack a 16 you know!

Cheers

How's that diff holding up? I see a few one-wheeled burnouts in the drag day thread, it won't like that...

No signs of it not doing an admirable job. Didn't seem to have a problem doing second gear burnouts, but when the clutch was dropped it was on a very wet surface. If it breaks it breaks, I've got spare centres

I think I might put together a 3.55 with a poor man's LSD once the weather is too shit to work on bodywork... Will only cost me about $100 in parts, a little bit of material and a bit of time in a machine shop, already got the springs :)

While im hovering, I can vouch for Heaths whole theory on it not droning etc, actually sounds quiet good from in the car.

And from the few spins i went for in this car, i can vouch for every one of those 17-18 seconds....

Quote Heath: "Nothing else matters, not the mortgage, or the gang and all there bullshit, In those 20 seconds or less, im free"

:tease:

Cheers.
