Love the industrial shots Heath, but you need some centre caps on those wheels! You should get some of those funky bullet looking ones.

Brett, got a link to the billet centre caps you're thinking of?

The only 'centre cap' I can think of that would actually fit and look good are GTR Torana-style ones, but I don't really want to spend $200 on some plastic cones. I bought some interceptor-style centre caps that are chrome plates metal, but they're kinda ugly unless you actually have interceptors.

Front springs are uc springs that I adjusted, blasted and painted, and the rears are series 1 IRS springs with the pigtails trimmed so they fit snugly around the bump stop mount.

I read an interview many years ago with a famous car builder and he said there are only 3 things you need to make a great car - Colour, stance and rims.

Heath your car looks great but it only has 2 1/2 of those.

Its amazing how getting a car nicely lowered can make it really look 'right', and with your bright green it looks fantastic.

I think those wheels look pretty good but if you could improve those wheels it would make your car look absolutely brilliant.

Which just goes to show you don't need to spend lots of money - just lots of time and effort - to make a great car.

For funky centre caps, I was thinking along these lines:

Posted Image

If you didn't want to make them a 'bling' feature, then you could paint them a plain colour to blend in more, rather than having them polished.

But looking back at your pics, polished would look sweet on your rims!!

A set of those "streeters" would like ace on the torana Heath! ;-)

Brett, you can't mount a centrecap like that on a steel pressed rim. If you could, I would have turned some up a long time ago lol.

If I went and bought FR17s or something for my car, it would make the car look like something that it isn't. It has a shitbox engine, shithouse suspension and standard brakes. Each to their own but I don't think it needs bling, it just needs finishing and some more go.

I reckon you could find a way to mount em! (You're an idea's man!). I know it can be done, I've seen other Torana's built like rat-rods, running standard 13" steel rims, but with bullet caps. They're obviously custom jobs, but at least it's possible.

If you were referring to my comment - I didn't mean you had to go out and buy $1000 wheels. Just needs something better than chromed steelies IMO. I think an old set of Centrelines or Dragways or similar would look tops.

What about a cap that you put on from the inside and is held there when the wheels are fitted?

There's an idea. I wonder what it would cost to get some 15" steelies made up? Or heath could use some Hk 14's and get them chromed. You might still be able to buy the rims brand new. I currently have HK 14's on my torry, in std black.

New extractors are fitted up, with a new flange and an adapting pipe. Exhaust leak is gone & ground clearance has improved.

And that 'dong' noise in the front end didn't consistently disappear, so I did some further inspection and was a little confused until Rob simply suggested that a bit of the spring wire was touching part of the LCA, jacked it til it was at full droop and pushed the spring across with a pinch bar. The noise hasn't come back so far

By the end of tomorrow, I should have the clutch adjustment done and a front swaybar fitted.

Pushed the spring across where? It shouldn't be able to move if its correctly seated...?

lol with the 'too low' springs, i could start the balljoint nuts on the thread of the balljoints, top and bottom, with the car up on a hoist, nothing other than my own arm strength hehehe

These ones required a fair bit of compressing to get them in. Sorry I should have clarified, lots of force was applied to the side of the spring to 'push it across' and I think it moved about a quarter of a mm. You couldn't even really see the difference but the noise has disappeared. I know, weird, really weird. I was surprised - I don't think I #@$^%& up the installation of the springs at all; they still are where they were, they just don't brush against that part of the LCA now. Never heard of it being a problem before

Really stretching the memory here but I recall a warranty fix (Toyota? Mits?) being to lift the car up so the springs were extended and feeding spaghetti onto the coils so the top, tight coils, couldn't rub each other.

Change the engine mount!

The car looks great Heath,
I would be chasing up some HR hubcaps which I think were also used on some Toranas, maybe LJ or LH ?
I think they would look good and certainly heaps better than the current look. Love the chromies though.

I think it was til LJ, the LH ones are a little different. Some hubcaps nicely polished up & some dress trims as well would look the stuff on there Heath!

Cheers
