Can anyone give me advice or confirm I am on the right track regarding gear needed for a 17Gallon fuel tank install into a LC

I have purchased the fuel tank from rares along with the sender (SU1008N), filler neck kit (H1158C) and screw kit (FK1124)

I already have a grommet kit (FW1010)

I think ?? I need a (SU1008NE) fuel tank extension and hose kit

Do I need a special tool to install sender into tank ?

Can I get a after market already made up breather pipe or do I need to fabricate one?

Thanks in advance

Hi Dave,

I couldn't find the H1158C Filler Neck Kit, came up with H1474 which is the neck only. If you have a standard neck I believe you can use it, just needs to be shortened slightly. You will also need a H1003 Hose kit if you haven't already got those parts and the SU1008NE kit you mentioned.

The Tank Sender Unit fitting tool has been reproduced and is readily available on eBay from several suppliers- not cheap, and all flogging it at the same price ($169.99) for something you may only ever use once. I have fitted a sender without the tool before- it is a bit of a PITA to do, but $170 buys a few slabs! You may be able to con someone local to loan you there's for some beer?

Brad Merrick reproduces the vent pipe to order ($220 according to his website), but you have to collect it from over here as it's too big to courier. The mounting clips (3) on the other hand are a different story and virtually  unobtainium :-(

As you will see in the link, he does the vinyl cover and boot mat as well.

Otherwise it's all pretty straight forward.

Cheers,

Richard

And if you're interested in any of Brad's parts I suggest ordering ASAP as they are generally made to order and fulfilment can sometimes take a while - worry about pick up (for the pipe) later - if he won't hold onto it for you, I will - I'm only 5 minutes from him. And we're directly on the road across if you know anyone doing the trip.

Pretty sure the standard filler neck is a smaller diameter than the XU1 filler neck

Correct Rodney, the std 10gall tank filler neck is smaller diameter than the XUI filler neck.
