Hi brains trust, I have just recently installed a 308 and a TH350 transmission and just wanted to know if I can run a quadrajet carby with the number 17059596 with this engine. Any advice would be appreciated.

That is the only Quadrajet off a Holden, Torana, Statesman or Commodore that you don't want. It's off an XT5 4.2, from WB through to VH.

If you've got it, keep it as it's a great carby for any 253/4.2.

If you want to run the XT5 5.0L carby you are looking for 17059595 CXK. Yours will be CXL. The CXK is a good carby to run as it has the choke mech attached and you can adjust the primary metering rods with the carby together. Just get it rebuilt properly. You can use any 1969-1974 HT-HJ 308/5.0L auto carb though but these have the divorced choke, or any 1975 HJ through to HZ/WB carby doesn't matter if auto or manual. Any will work, but that WB/VC/VH carby is more easily adjusted. A VK one will work too, those are 17084595 JHT or 17084596 JRB, the second one is off a VK GroupA.

This might be one, ask the seller:

Thank you very much for your advice. I contacted the one you sent the link to on eBay, it’s part number 7043266 e3 so not sure if that one is suitable. I also found one on Gumtree with the part number of 17086099 1527 JUK. Would this one be a possibility? Cheers

7043266 is off something else.

JUK is VL which should work OK.

Are you going to get the auto choke operational or fit an electric actuator to it?
