That cam is surely run in already with 2000k on it, if you have the lifters in their correct order good-o.
I would treat it like it was brand new, and give it the run in process all over again just to be sure,
it couldn’t hurt anything anyway

If something weird happened in the old motor, maybe Byron’s idea of new lifters is a good one, and a bottle of Clays magic zinc juice not silly either

I'm talking about machining variations between engines. Where the cam tunnel is machined and where the lifters are machined. If the lifters bores aren't exactly in the same location relative to the cam journals, I reckon its more trouble than it's worth, for the cost of a new set of lifters. With a V8 it's not like a red 6 either where you can change the lifters out in minutes by simply removing the rocker covers and side plates, you have to remove the whole valley cover on a V8.

You’re dead right there, unless you want to chance it on the other guy’s word on the 2000km, and the motor is a slap together and take the risk.
Couldn’t be much more thorough than that, short of having a machine shop true up or sleeve those lifter bores

It is possible to have issues with different blocks, but in my experience new lifters generally makes it worse. I'd be more inclined to re-use the old ones in the same locations if you're going to try it and see (we've all done it and it usually works out...)
