Hi picked up a 3 speed ( apprx 2.99/ 1.6/ 1:1 and rev,). Aussie style case.
I paid $11.60 inc. GST, for the purpose of just getting a shift arm, some nuts and bolts etc off it as emergency spares.
However, I see the side case seems same as 4 speed?.
Are any of the internal bits interchangeable?
Thinking shift forks?, synchro rings?
Ta

The case is interchangeable on early versions with the 4spd that have a split reverse idler, but won't work with a one piece reverse idler gear. Input shaft (clutch gear) off the standard M15 (not HT V8 box) is interchangeable with an M22 6cyl 4spd (or you can use a V8 3spd shaft to turn a 6cyl M22 into a V8 one). Input shaft cover (for same seal type) and side cover (early and late, late have the top gear switch). Plus bolts.

Ta, reckon those bits will cover theb outlay.
I think the input shaft bearing cover is slightly different. Seems to almost have a pipe tupe thread around the input shaft once the cover is removed.

That is the earlier seal, it is called an oil slinger, refer to my reply in the second last sentence. Caused clutch slippage when parked nose down as oil leaked past. Was revised around 1973 for the neoprene type seal.

If that box is original its circa 1971-1972-ish. Earlier ones were smooth case.

I could have given you a dozen 4spds a few years back, I sold everything I had for about $500 including heaps of new parts.

I’ve got a smooth case in my ute, and made the mistake of pre-filling it before installing the driveline. With an EH sump, sitting on a sheet of cardboard on the shed floor, engine was tilting forward, contrary to how it would be installed. The porosity of the input orifice soon became very apparent, as a good half the oil seeped out of the bottom of the bellhousing. I refilled in the car per instruction and it continued to leak a bit for a while, then stopped. All good now, just the bloody rocker cover now.
