I know people like to bag the Supercars, but regardless of like or dislike, I reckon it has simply lost it's way.
Somewhat understandable, as it mooved further and further away from road cars.
Had to I guess as both Manufacturer interest waned and the big grunty road car didn't exist any more anyway.
Seems to me that there is little actual "racing" , particularly as they try to make the cars so identical.
The whole focus seems to be on pit/ fuel/ tyre strategy with a topping of whinging about " parity".
Gen 3 was to be the "fix", but the less aero that was supposed to make them slide more and be harder to drive, seems to be simply overcome by the sticky tyres they are now running.
What's the answer?... dunno, can't see it lasting in it's current form.
Can't fault the " techo-ness" of it or the fact that they put on " a show" or noise & colour.

Maybe just leave them as they are, make them hard to drive, put 'em back on road tyres. If the lap times are 20secs slower, so what.

That and half the rounds are no longer on free to air.  I spend too much money on a car and Mtb’s and too much time in the shed or on the bike to pay for Kayo or the like. I agree, it’s lost its way.  If they want to run Mustangs and Camaros, so be it, use the road going versions, use parity to cap hp/rpm’s, go back to regulated components like the old HQ series and have one tyre and one suspension package and make it relevant.  Totally agree - who cares if it’s 20 seconds slower. Geeze I sound old

I must be old too - I agree completely. I used to love the category - but really struggle to find any interest now.

Lack of free to air coverage was absolutely the first nail in the coffin. Cost of living and raising a family means no Kayo for me either.

Then there’s the racing itself - it’s just lost the spark. A million variables could be tabled here to make the racing better / more equal / more on-edge etc - but they’ll never wind it back. Road tyres is a really interesting idea.

I reckon there’s a few nervous people behind the scenes clinging on for dear life to see how this plays out in the next couple of years. The commentary team do a great job in revving it all up and using their influence and charismatic personalities to keep the mum and dad families interested. But no Holden and Ford rivalry is just another dent in the whole thing.

Who knows!

Stopped watching everything except the 1000 many years ago.
Would always watch the 1000 from fri through to the end but this year switched it off after 10 laps.

Agree with the above....and me too...maybe just getting a bit old, but I used to be glued to the TV for the 500/1000, now an hour here or there is enough for me.

I have lost interest too. Lost it long ago but at least I still had a badge to cheer for. Now, sure it's still a GM product and Camaros were on and off a big part of GroupC since the late 1960's - probably the most dominant of all GroupC cars ever was Bob Jane's 1969 ZL1. Even more so for Mustang in the 60's and again in GroupA with regards to its links to Australian racing. But it isn't the same without cars that resemble local product. And it hasn't been that way since Falcon and VF Commodore were racing each other.

Just saw this reading something unrelated. Good timing!

When Chevrolet released the Camaro in 1967, most of its cars wore a name that started with the letter C. The branding team in charge of finding a name for project Panther allegedly made a list of 2000 words that start with a C, including a few that they made up. Camaro was one of them.

Though it has a Spanish ring to it, the name Camaro doesn’t mean anything in any language. Chevrolet famously told journalists who attended the car’s launch that a Camaro is a small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs.

I'm same as Ice. I was born same year as the "Bathurst 500" , been watching since my teens. At least I can get some coverage on FTA and not much else available. But don't have the same interest in the cars, mostly follow teams or drivers. DJR is my favourite time , at least have a connection back to group C days. Wish we got more Touring Car Masters or production cars on TV. Still do the Bathurst all day on the couch.😆

my opinion is Supercars doesn't have the relevance it used to have. Its not on tv anymore

But mostly its the boring clinical, pit stop racing, too many penalties and drivers have no personality (it is to sanitised for me). The series was alot better when team owners had little input. Parity is pointless if all cars are same may as well have 1 make series.

I think they need to dump the areo like trans am cars or either go full areo like dtm cars and the like. one or the other. and let them race

for me its about Variety, you need more than 2 brands. Racing, let them race, rubbing is racing after all. And the specticle of 4 wheel drifting a comer

i like historic racing for that reason, you can see multiple makes, multiple engine combos, fwd v rwd. especially Goodwood MM its a must watch.

same with amateur racing series plenty of variety and action.

Would always watch the 1000 from fri through to the end but this year switched it off after 10 laps.

There was a time when I wouldn't miss a round on telly, and I travelled to Wanneroo every year to watch it live. Especially through the 80's and 90's.  But it all went south for me back in 2015 when Dave Reynolds was fined $25,000 for calling Renae Gracie's car the "Pussy Wagon". 25 Grand!!!  The standard fine in Supercars for dangerous driving is $5,000.  This incident turned Reynolds from one of the few real characters of the sport, into a sad quiet robot.

I have kept watching the 1000 mainly because I am a huge Lowndes fan, but for the first time in 45 years, this year I had better things to do on the day. I recorded it, but still haven't got around to watching it, and probably won't.

The commentary team do a great job in revving it all up and using their influence and charismatic personalities to keep the mum and dad families interested. But no Holden and Ford rivalry is just another dent in the whole thing.

Yep. The banter between Crompton, Larkham and even Skaife has always been good.  Others worth remembering are Mike Raymond, Garry Wilkinson, Will Hagon, and I like it when they bring in Jack Perkins for his technical expertise, or Lowndes to take the piss out of everybody!  The worst ever has been Rick Kelly.

I don't mind the Group 3 racing. 6, 8 and 10 cylinder cars. https://youtu.be/xQb...9lkmf9Xjxk1wsIS

Any racing racing's good, as long as it's got some action. that GT race was busy, big field of cars.
