Thursday.

The once quiet day of setting up.

Not anymore cock! (I still remember the first time I was given this greeting of respect from an older Aussie bloke…..)

Entrants sold out sometime mid year and whole event spectator passes all gone too.

Plenty of hard core torries.

Blowers everywhere.

Insane race cars cruising the loop.

The smell of methanol is thick in the air.

No more so than in the dyno hall where it was nice to see one of the hairdresser model toranas put up some good numbers.

Thank god that boat anchor six is long gone 😂

Not even the mythical 18 port double JZED head could make this power.

Adam ran his tidy blue dunnydore on meth in otherwise full street trim.

Attached File  IMG_1898.jpeg   100.4K   7 downloads

And it did pretty good.

Attached File  IMG_1945.jpeg   57.47K   7 downloads

Some 6 second race car goodness.

Attached File  IMG_1913.jpeg   143.65K   7 downloads

And a pretty good effort at crossing symmetry with awesome bonnet flames.

Beaut ute. Pity it stalled at the crossing and we had to push it off to the side 😂

And keeps on smoking.

Plenty of patina, including fakies.

And the odd WTF is that moment.

For some reason white is back.

These cars look good but would all look even better with almost any other colour.

A momentous thing happened today.

Back a few years they ran a dyno exhibition challenge between a pro radial turbo car and a doorslammer. The cars were progressively turned up over the weekend and both ended up around the 3000hp at the hubs with the win to the turbo car.

Spectacular event with the doorslammer shaking the dyno tin shed to bits and the turbo car breathing big bits of fire.

At the time I thought this was never going to be topped as a spectacle. Well maybe if they somehow found a top fuel car to run.

Attached File  IMG_3664.jpeg   306.41K   9 downloads

Attached File  IMG_2055.jpeg   157.36K   6 downloads

And today they did!

Did a startup on alcohol which when you are mere meters from the car is spectacular. I put myself and the big kids in the line of the exhaust and the raw alcohol out the pipes brought tears to the eyes. Deafened by the throttle blats its an amazing experience.

Loved it so much we went back for the second startup at 5pm.

When we turned up in the morning the signs said all friday/saturday passes were sold out as well as all saturday passes.

It showed in the big crowd.

Burnouts are full on.

Its like the fog closing over…

Skills are top notch with most drivers managing to torn long cars around with ease in the narrow entrance and exit zones. The build quality is now very very good with mechanical failures uncommon. The cooler weather probably helped too.

Top 60 hall wasn’t the same this year without Heath.

This was eye catching.

Attached File  IMG_1950.jpeg   162.1K   7 downloads

A shadow model W427 2 door.

Created out of a Maloo ute and a sedan back half this must have been a very expensive build.

Which makes me very sad to say it was one of the worst cars i have ever seen in that hall. Panel gaps were atrocious.

Attached File  IMG_3648.jpeg   60.15K   6 downloads

Back of door to B pillar gap is a triangle.

Attached File  IMG_3650.jpeg   196.69K   6 downloads

And on the other side its comically wide.

Attached File  IMG_3657.jpeg   55.46K   6 downloads

Attached File  IMG_3658.jpeg   43.75K   7 downloads

Boot gaps are craptacularly uneven.

Attached File  IMG_3652.jpeg   58.83K   7 downloads

Sill panel falling off.

Attached File  IMG_3659.jpeg   70.06K   6 downloads

And the taillight gaps were full 1970 Kwality.

Front door gaps just as bad.

Early girl commodores are everywhere.

Attached File  IMG_2043.jpeg   96.32K   6 downloads

Lots of blue meanies

Attached File  IMG_1958.jpeg   139.58K   7 downloads

And the odd torana

Attached File  IMG_3661.jpeg   138.37K   6 downloads

This one is very odd. It also had a very bad sounding metal squeal when they started it up and headed off to do a lap.

If only I had won that magazine comp all those years ago.

Plenty of nice land yachts about.

Toranas seem to be slowly thinning.

Nice to see the traditional gold centres back.

The trend of active wear as daily wear will hopefully come to an end…soon.

Older build with scoop glassed to bonnet. Better look than the bolts I reckon.

Yes please.

Is there a kinder term for this than still fugly?

Attached File  IMG_2037.jpeg   185.34K   6 downloads

I wonder what metric their long term sponsor uses to assess value for money?

For me this is the best of the top 60 hall and should win best judged.

That blue LX with the Hotwires gets my vote.

Not necessary to have the perfect underside like it has IMHO, but tough as, regardless.

We are going to lose Summernats soon with these dickhead sideline wankers causing so much trouble. I don't blame the security guards flogging a few of them...they will get into some serious trouble though as one of them in particular thought he had a right to hit anyone.
