Remove/Disconnect old Cobra car alarm from wiring harness.

Never actually looked at one Ian, but always assumed they would have spliced it into some of the main supply circuits. i.e. so if you just cut it off, there will be a hole or two in some important circuits? ( start, ingnition etc) and car would be "immobilised".( assuming it's an immobiliser and not just a noise maker?).
I guess the people installing it in the day may have just made it sound the horn and flash the blinkers, but to be an "immobiliser" is should interupt the start and go circuits.
Reckon I'd be taking the time to untape the harness where it seems to go, and understand what goes where.
Blinker & horn extra wiring may just be able to be chopped out, but start and ign. may need to restored to factory.
As Brad said, not a lot of work, but may be best to understand it and do it once. Hope that helps.

Disconnected a few old alarms over the years.
The people putting them in went for the easiest option they could find usually.
All I ever did was chase the alarm wiring back to where it connected into the original harness.
The connections were always either a splice join, or a cut and divert.
The alarm harnesses were rarely properly 'taped' into the original harness, but if they were they were easy enough to remove.
Just find a starting point and work methodically until you have removed it all.
Join any wires that were 'broken' for the alarm and insulate any that were just spliced.

Yeah.
Just follow any wire that goes into the alarm back to the harness.
You should be able to tell the difference in the wires as you go.
Then its either rejoin or insulate and its done.
If you get stuck post a pic and will give you advice.

Looks like they have taped the alarm harness to the original wiring.
Get rid of the tape and then separate the original harness from the alarm harness.
That should make things simpler.
Cant quite picture where the alarm box with the key is in the car.
But separation of the harnesses is the first step

Yeah okay.
But just go through and separate the wiring.
It will make lots more sense once all the wires are apart and their terminations are located.

On the first pic the only wire that needs attention is where the scissors are on the green wires.
Easy solution would be to find the green wires where you can access them, cut both of them then join the 2 ends that go back into the original harness.
The second pic is a bit of a challenge.
But it might be an attempt to get 12v to the coil on start.
I would chop all of it out.
Make sure the wire from the start switch goes to the starter solenoid.
Im assuming that it is still the standard ignition and start system otherwise?
I would just pull the micro switch out and see what happens with it gone.
Get rid of whatever doesnt look factory.
Then see if it works.
Hope you have a half decent multimeter if it wont work.
WIll help with finding where any issues are.

Looks like you will need to remove the dash cluster, Find the cut ignishion wire and starter wire and rejoin them. I would solder and cover with dual wall heatshrink. It has hot glue on the inside so it seals the jount and helps support it as well.
Not that hard to get to but you will need to find where they cut the wires. If you are lucky you may find where the green wires on the 1st diagram is conected to the 2 halves of the ignishion wire by just following them back with the dash still in. May be cut at the bottom of the steering columb where the ignishion switch is.
