That's the serial number of the transmission, date of trans should be early 1973

K52 will be October 5th 1972. The earlier format was month in letters A-L, A=January M=December (no I as to not confuse the I with a 1), then day of month 1-31 then last digit of year.
Early in 1973 the date changed to day, month (still as a letter), year e.g my GTR trans is 2K3 2nd October 1973 serial T552323

Just out of interest, Graham, can you find the the three-character date code cast into that case as well?

Will have a look for that date code tomorrow.
l was told the box came from a LJ gtr wrecked in the nineties.

Also, if you have it apart (or at least have the selector cover off), try and find the part number stamped into the cluster shaft. That may help narrow-down what it came out of?
And the part number of the reverse gear will identify whether it was originally a 6 cyl M20 or V8 M20 (converted to 6 cyl)?
Well, assuming it hasn't been 'Frankenstein'd' together from odd parts, of course!

Can only read last number on date code. 3 Assuming that means1973.
Cluster reads 2813496 L88.

Yep, 2813496 is just a standard M20 countershaft... Common to all the bog standard 4, 6 & 8 cylinder M20's.
Unfortunately, it's not one of the homologation boxes then (which would make it worth substantially more $$$)!

Not quite. Early HQ commercial 6cyl M20's use a different cluster (this box's code changed to M22 once the regular M20 became available in 6cyl commercials and/or they started stamping driveline codes on the BODY ID tag). And the standard XU1 aussie M20 also used a different cluster.

That's why I said "bog standard"! I realise there are odd versions here 'n there that don't use that cluster, but the vast majority of Aussie M20's do.
My query was mainly whether it may have originally come from an XU-1... You never know?!
