My car has just come back from panel and paint and the chassis # is fully covered up. Does anyone have a clear pic showing its exact location in relation to the carbon cannister ?

Kim the chassis number should be where you have circled it, you can also jump on AMC site and look up the sold LH LX Toranas they always show the chassis numbers.

LH and LX are all in the same basic spot. See one here:

These cars by design had the number stamped on the steel before the body was fabricated so GMH would have used a gang stamp tool with a locator on it to always stamp in approx the same location each time.
