There have been quite a few threads about replacement XU-1 batteries over the years.

https://www.google.c...sclient=gws-wiz

This thread is about a suitable battery, not for the rivet counters, that will fit under the bonnet (not in the boot) if you have non standard triples on a longer runner manifold. Maybe not triple Webbers though?

The RoDoMo research and development team has spent countless hours scouring old catalogues and doing the legwork around spare parts stores with a measuring tape in the hope of finding one.

We've settled on a Supercharge battery, MF44.

It was on special Wednesday (a still maybe???) for $160 at Autobahn.

It measures 175mm H, 175mm W and 210mm L.

It is 510cca which is way more than a standard Torana battery AND comes with a 50 month warranty. (I hope this warranty doesn't expire before my car is on the road?)

It will need a fabricated bracket as it clamps on a ridge around the bottom of the battery but this eliminates the standard clamp bracket which adds to the height.

It will give more than 20mm clearance to the bonnet at the negative post and shitloads to the positive post.

I'll add pics as I make the bracket.

The Yellow Sticker MF44 was only fitted to '72 XU1's between March and May.  You need the Green Sticker.  :)

Ian, you can get the same battery in the sister brand Yuasa in a much more sensible black case :-)
