OS Formula hotwires don't fit Hoppers

So these wheels have a rim (lip) for clipping the center cap to. The Hoppers hubs are the proper diameter but deeper. So the locator component of the wheel fits over just fine but the hub can't protrude past the center cap ring because of its depth. I see 2 options, machine the lip off the rim and look at other center cap options. Or machine a rebate out of the hub so it can pass thru the cap ring. Both the brake rotor and ideally the wheel should locate (directly or with the use of an additional locating ring) on the centre spigot of the hub. As long as it can still do that I don't see any issue with removing a little to clear the centre cap, there should be plenty of material at the small outer bearing end.

 

If there's a significant gap between the wheel and spigot, an alternative cap option may be one that fits from behind and doubles as the locating ring. The added bonus with this style is they are harder to steal.

Screwed-on caps instead of push-in?

They look like 4140 CroMo... so certainly strong enough

Yep ...shorter power steering arms. I have fitted a BMW PS rack supplied by Peter Nash and this is how he does it.Attached File  20240420_132955.jpg   95.25K   11 downloads

Ahh cool, thanks mate that explains it. Peter certainly thinks outside the box with his Torana stuff.
Be interesting to see the bump steer curve for that set up.

I had the 17inch OS Hotwires and they had screw on caps.

Sure are. These were from the first batch and I was given a choice of cap style and went with screw on.

Is the general idea to have the steering arms parallel to the road when the car is at ride height?

Where did the coil overs come from?

Pete works from home and is swamped with work so doesn't put himself out there. Some would call him the Torana guru and he has developed many solutions for problems that restorers come across. Reach out to him via https://www.facebook...mibextid=A7sQZp were he is an active member. Search him in the members list perhaps and DM him. Check out his posts for a sense of the work he does.

He is based in QLD.

I got the Viking coilovers from the Rod Shop.

I think it's the other way round. Heath puts a bit more into his to make them more original looking. However if you are not fussed about retaining the curved glass faces then Petes setup is cheaper.
