Bought a second hand 308 about 6 months ago.

Turned it over by hand no problem.

Now 6 months later I can’t turn it clockwise (from the front of the engine).

Surely it’s not seized just from sitting there in a garage?

Any ideas?

Not on your one, but years ago I bought a Centura that hadn’t run for about 2 years. We poured a bit of diesel in every spark plug hole, sprayed WD40 into the head, exhaust and inlet, left it 24 hours, turned over by hand no probs without plugs. Plugs back, fresh fuel and battery fired first go.

Bearings can get sticky after a while. Are you using your hands or a breaker bar off the harmonic balancer?

HI pull the spark plugs out, spray plenty of c r c in the plug holes it should then turn over, if you turned the engine over 6 months ago there should be no issues with the engine.

I used a breaker bar. Won’t budge.

Plugs are out.

I’m about to start puling it down.

I'd undo the rocker posts and make sure it's not a seized lifter.

It could easily be lifter(s) and/or valve(s) so worth a try. A stuck lifter won't free up with rockers removed but not having the valve spring pressure on it might be enough to free it. If it is a lifter you are going to be up for talking the valley cover off it but possibly worth doing anyway as Holden V8's are renowned for their taste for camshafts, and it's far easier to change when the engine is on a stand.

I tried moving the crank bolt back and forth now it’s moving about 3mm each way then stopping with a clunk in each direction.

You didn't shove rags in intake & exhaust ports to seal it?

Might have to pull plugs soaks all the bores then every day or two try turn it a little bit or shove boroscope in there to see how bad it looks.

If it is as bad as it sounds, I reckon the heads will need to come off for a proper look.  Any pitting in the bores means a rebuild.
