Started to assemble the front end (May 72 build XU1) and we must be doing something wrong because it can't be this hard. Coil has to be compressed from 11" to 7" to go in, a feat in itself. Got the spring in, did all the parts up and the rubber bump stop is totally deformed. Then took ages to get the spring compressors off. Is there a trick to this?

Mate who is assisting  rebuilt an LC GTR and said that was no problem at all.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Don't use spring compressors designed for McPherson struts. Bump stop rubber is totally deformed. Which one? The one on the upper control arm or the lower?

I use two car jacks to wind up the 5/8" coil springs into place,

with the K frame out of car,

using the top shocky bolt to hold the frame:

The upper one. The conical one.

The upper one. The conical one.

Yeah mine are squashed into a ball shape between the upper arm and the spring tower. I actually need to replace one that has split
