After having a trawl through here and not finding my particular problem

Ignition barrel is stuck in the "on" position

Turned the key on and started the car as usual

Key returned to the on position as it is supposed to under the spring pressure

Went to turn the car off and it won't budge out of the on position and had to stall the car to stop it

Can start the car again and all is ok

Just can't get it back past the on position to the off and lock

Have dropped the column and it is nothing at the switch end - all good there

Steering wheel off etc and got back down to the barrel area with the little slot to remove the barrel but there is nothing i can seem to do to get the barrel out

I installed it a few years ago so have been there before

I do however remember somewhere the barrel has to be in the lock position or something for it to come out (or i may just be dreaming things up)

If that is the case, I am in a catch 22 as I can't get it to that position.

Any thoughts

Cheers

I seem to recall Acc position to fit remove the barrel

If the barrel wil not go to that position it is not fun, Had one on a H series lock up and ended drilling the center of the lock (Verry slowley) untill it fell apart and turned the remander to where it allowed me to remove it. Lots of small pices to lock up and break the drill bit just to make it even more interesting.

May be able to force the lock tab down with a good hit and get it to release but this may be as risky as the drill.

If the lock is worn a big squair shanked screwdriver rather than a key and a shifter to turn it? Just dont try to remove it with a crow bar like the previos owner of my UC, Had to replace the top of the columb before I could replace the old lock

ACC is one click backward from LOCK, but if memory serves, the barrel needs to be in the OFF position (one click forward from LOCK, or in other words, halfway between the LOCK and IGN positions) to be able to depress the little tab in the slot.

I would only be guessing but I reckon the barrel has fallen to bits inside, sounds like it's acting as if the key has come out while in the IGN position.

Can you get any movement out of the key? Maybe try jiggling it to see if the barrel will turn back to the OFF position, allowing it to be removed.

Otherwise, as above, you will have to sacrifice the barrel to avoid damaging the coffee pot.

There’s a general ignition barrel thread on here below.  My experience is on there. LJ but it was a complete PITA and didn’t behave anything like most peoples experience. Mines a 2 owner car and I’ve had it since ‘83, but had a new barrel at some point. I needed a second pair of hands with honeypot completely off the car.  Still had to pry against plastic, but used a softer plastic bicycle tyre lever.

Hi Guy's

I tried every think would turn on the lock or accessory.

My was a Rare Spares wasn't about a new barrel was bought about 18 months.

Got a new barrel from Kingswood Country that fixed the problem.

I wish the depress tab was the problem.

Regards Mando.

Thanks Brad

had a feeling it had to be in a certain position for removal

Cheers fellas for the input -- GMH comes through again

just need to get it to the off position -- i knew the little tab thing had to be aligned with the slot but couldn't see it

Let the fun begin

Pretty sure it was Laurie but a long time ago now when I purchased it

Just to keep this updated

Had an issue as i couldn't find the little release tab therefor couldn't release the barrel

Pulled the coffee pot off and sat looking at it trying to figure out where it was

After a rum it turns out the tab and barrel had moved in further past the slot and locked itself further in hence i couldn't see it

Used a scribe with the bent end to get in underneath from the plastic rack side and depressed the lock tab so the barrel could be moved back in to put the tab back in to where it was supposed to be

Depressed the tab as per a normal removal and barrel out

I would say the guts of it has sh1t itself as after a good clean and a bit of tapping etc, in case there was a pawl or something stuck inside, the thing still will not return to the lock position

Tried key jiggling and different positions but no joy

New barrel required

have a problem now as to buy a new barrel can they supply me with the same barrel key as i don't want to replace the door locks as well

Have asked Kingswood if they can do it --- keys came with a tag saying 2VXX so i presume that is the cut of the key
