Sunday show and shine looks like a full SW gale. Carpark at the Mantra Lighthouse motel was going off this arvo.6e47c5527c84633d06f83c7d8322d8ff.jpg7f92dc9b1d904469e1de029b645070f6.jpg49761a4c7d74c4344a9c5aa4263aac45.jpg39d5d755345bc996690417f2947ad016.jpgd3a30f2319067d440b00cb0588f73f88.jpgb6ce8350deb83182f3b069376c3dca3b.jpgf54cb1bd148520c78ffda84b30108135.jpg

I remember when these things were daily drivers and coming off into $100 scrap. Like VZ and VE 6cyl are now. Shame to see so many get scrapped and crushed back in the day. Roads would be far prettier today if a lot more FB and EK on it.

That pink one is a classic timepiece / timewarp.
Prob has a boot full of Laminex kitchen parts, Tupperware and Flag Ale cans.

That "six pot" one is the colours same as the one my Mum and Dad had when we were little kids . It didn't have a radio, but 3 of the neighbours who had them as well ( theirs were Waggons ) did have the radio.....alway felt like we missed out there.....

Great to catch up Clay.  I couldn't bring our EK down as we had other things to do down in that neck of the woods over the weekend.

I'm not a big fan of the station wagons, but this car was my peoples choice.

I'm also not a big fan of flared guards, but this one looked alright. Sort of reminded me of the Running on Empty Chev.

There were a few there with LJ diffs in them which gives you enough room to squeeze big rims under without moving the springs.

And another. This one had not long cracked 30,000 miles and hadn't been restored.  It is also a Standard, which made it rare on the day. I guess most of those were worked harder than the Specials and probably more often than not ended up in speedway.

The metallic wagon belongs to Mark Stone, and runs an RB30 with turbo added. Your vote helped it win the peoples choice Laurie. The survivor wagon with boards on the roof is SA clu president Roger Beale's car, and runs a 186 and Aussie 4 spd. It drove over from Adelaide in four days without incident, despite the fact it has lost its brakes on two previous club outings. It is lucky to get an oil change, ever. I've previously followed it to Toowoomba and Echuca, and I restored ne of the boards for him.

The Grey sedan won grand champion. Runs a small block from memory. I don't think it has an LC LJ diff Laurie.

How cool. Thanks for sharing!

Love the 'Survivor' Special wagon, and the flared rear guards on that red sedan.

The People's Choice wagon with the extra brightwork on the S/S's is beautiful as well.

Hey Clay,  if you or any of the others driving back east aren't afraid to drive on the dirt for a day, the old Eyre Highway is worth doing.  Lots of old Holdens behind the Koonalda Service Station which was still standing when I went through there 8 years ago.

Go north at Eucla, and you will pop out back on the highway at Nullarbor.  Good road.

Thanks Laurie, good to know. I'm putting the car on transport and flying home. I'll be back in the landcruiser at some stage and definitely have a look then.

Laurie,

Got anymore pics of the peoples Choice car - looks pretty smik. Not a fan of the flares either but that car is also fitted with Tassie plates, which is a decent serve of commitment in my opinion.

Got a bit of a soft spot for these as the first car I drove was my Uncle's light grey/white EK Special S/Wagon, which I inherited when he upgraded to a new HJ Vacationer. It had to stay in his name as it had way too much rust to ever pass a roadworthy. And I reckon it had been rolled earlier in its life as the wagon side windows were struggling to stay in the body and it leaked like a sieve everywhere. The clutch was gummed up that bad you could slide your foot off the side doing a U-Turn and it still wouldn't spin the wheel. But still fun times. My cousin got it after I bought my LJ GTR and she had the clutch replaced. That enabled more power (138?) down the line which immediately blew up the diff and off to the toaster factory it went :-(

This was the only other photo I got of that one.  They ALL leak like a sieve by the way!

Yes, they all tend to leak, through the front screen mainly.

That is Mark Stone's RB30. 20 year old build, and crossed the Nullarbor a few times. Quite a few have car-bras for them.
