I’d still love to have some sort of older Holden to regularly drive but I think today it’d have to be injected with an overdrive box.So my favourite in all of the above would be that Red FB with the Holden V8 in it.

Allan's FB has the 5 litre also. After holomogation, it seems they used up the stock of 308 cranks, which his "304" came with from factory.
Or Greg's 327 TH700 9" UC front end EK sedan.......

Cranks never had 304 cast into them. My VL and VP 5 litre engines both have 308 cast into them. Both are short stroke.

If he has the $ a Sniper and Hyperspark would be to go for the 307. I spent the extra $ for the Quadrajet Sniper as they sound exactly like a Quadrajet when the secondaries begin to work. If he is dead keen on a Quadrajet though, tell him to get Xtreme over here to sell and/or rebuild him a standard 308/5.0L Quadrajet, it'll work fine out of the box on a 307. If he runs a front cable throttle a VC/WB to VK carb will be the go, easier to tune as you can adjust the primaries without pulling the top off. If he's running a linkage throttle (rear pull) a HT to HJ carby will be the go. You can still pick most of them up off a Holden/Statesman/Commodore for $100 and get them rebuilt for about $400. It also depends on what intake he fits or it has if its already a 4BBL Holley as the factory intakes don't suit a later Quadrajet due to where the heat crossover goes under the carby.
You can even buy a Snipers that replace both of the Rochester 2V carbs, the small bore one like a HK-HT 307 (and the WW Stromberg on a 253/4.2 is the same size) or the larger 2V Rochester like a 1968 235hp 327 or the L65 350's had.
