I have just found a photo of a VH with the Marlboro paint job in blue.  There was also the HDT homologation car for the A9X hatch that was painted in the same colours.  I have heard the hatch being called the Winnie Blue car, but I'm sure that Winfield and Marlboro had nothing to do with each other. Anybody seen any others around?

While on the subject of this hatch, who is Don Pellatt?  He logbooked the Winnie Blue car according to CAMS documentation.  Are you still around Mr Angel?

But then there is this car which has a supposedly unbroken line back to him as well.

Laurie

Why was it wearing CLX number plates and was being advertised as an A9X? Was it rebodied using a GMP&A shell or something?

CLX is the chassis number prefix for most A9X road cars. This is advertised as a 1979 A9X with original diff in that second last image. But that compliance plate is 4/76 with a chassis number of ALX006688M and 4/76 which will be close to J5203xx, potentially J520348 but might be lower depending upon stuff other than HJ in that area (like Bedford or Chevrolet trucks). Which means it is an LX SL or SS if that plate belongs to the body.

The picture of the plate belongs with the Winnie Blue car at the top.  Harry's black SS hatch was used as the road car for Homologation, and this one was used for homologating the race version. This was a converted SS, as was John Harvey's first race car. They were not factory A9X's or GMP&A shells. It was first logbooked by Don Pellatt.

The other white hatch below that pic is the one advertised for sale and has the Bathurst mags on it.  That one is a GMP&A race shell with a CLX 061###M chassis number. (Yet another unraced one.) Advertised for sale as ex Don Pellatt.

So he owned two race cars but never had a race???

That makes more sense.

I thought the homologation race car was the red one displayed at Sandown in 1977? The one that wears M21 on the body tag as its MC7 tag was made but never fitted as they screwed the PSN up on it.

Got a photo of that one Byron?

It is the first production A9X hatchback after the Press Test cars. J591125. It was built as a stock A9X and GMH fitted a T10 to it. Was displayed at the Sandown Hang 10 400 as a car for CAMS to check for proof of what was on or optional on the standard evolution of the SS 5.0L. It still wears its original BODY ID tag, it was not replaced with the modified tag that was made for it to wear when it left GMH reflecting its build (is MC7). Whomever made the replacement BODY ID tag screwed up as it shows the PSN for another car (the press test sedan J590973) but is an 1890-18V D77 tag. That tag has since shown up fitted to another car, and I have photos of them. Same car has a GMH made VIN tag on it with G for the model year and also an 11/77 GMH ADR tag with no chassis number.

Yel and I have been chipping away at this.  It is amazing just how many prototype / homologation / spare / GMPA road and race A9X's there are. With the 33 rolling race bodies I reckon I'm up around 450.

Does anybody have a photo of the Mandarin Red hatch that Holden had on display at the 1977 Hang Ten 400 to homologate the road version?

I'll ask the current owner if he has any old photos that came with the car.
