Anyone here live in Camden? Looking for someone to pick up a sett of forged 327 pistons for me and hang onto them until I’m down that way next. I’ll pay for them, just have to pick up the box. It’s a new set in a box.

Just out of interest, for anyone with 30 seconds to waste...

 

What I was looking to pick up is a 25-30 (or more) year old set of Speed Pro pistons in original box. 7002P +30. These are the rebranded TRW forged OEM pistons for the 1960's L76 and L79 327 11:1 engines. These are the 365/375hp hipo 327 engines famous in the 1960's that were the highest output Chevrolet small block engines ever made. The source of the original Fuelie heads from the 60's.

 

If I live long enough I'd love to build a 327 using these pistons. I'd use a 1969-70 block with 4 bolt mains not the old 2 bolt version (SJ until 1967 or large journal of 1968). And probably use alloy aftermarket heads with 69-70cc chambers rather than the original 64cc as 11:1 is potentially just a bit too high, get it back to about 10.5:1. With a roller can rather than the old Duntov solid cam of the L76 or the performance hydraulic of the L79 but use similar cam specs. Just to see what they go like. I've read a lot written about these engines from racers in the 60's and the power and 1/4 mile times they got in mid or full size Chevies was impressive, and this is in stock class using old 461 and 462 Fuelies. The performance of the Beechey HK GTS327 in Group C gives some indication of how good the engines could be, this was a Traco race engine but used all GM parts.
