It didn't work for me with my first new car. (VT) I ordered every Holden By Design option available because I wanted the best that Holden could deliver with my particular budget. I went this way because I was a Holden fan, not HSV. It wasn't a problem at all for Station Motors in Collie, and it only took about six weeks to get my manual V8 Executive with bodykit and wheels not available anywhere else.

At 6 weeks, it was most likely still a schedule car, and they added the HBD stuff to it for you. I ordered a new VY SS ute in December 2002, took until mid-May 2003 for it to be delivered. It was a stock white manual car with black leather trim, compliance date was 30/4/03.

We think alike. When I bought my V2, I could have had HSV uglified versions for less, but I wanted a Monaro not a HSV coupe.

So with the trim 1890-18X I have a couple of questions.

Is the carpet black loop?

There seem to be a few “factory” different headlining patterns including sandpaper and herringbone. Which one is correct?

Is the interior roof light black or chrome?

Does the coverage of pillars with vinyl or paint vary between SS and lesser hatches?

Thanks in advance.

Rexy, did you sort any of this out? Some of the answers will be in Torana Tough.

I'm pretty sure all of the lower model Holden and Torana were all loop, only the high spec stuff like Caprice were plush pile.

Someone here has to know what was on an LX headlining pattern wise in 10/76. I just cannot remember. Same with the interior light. Did your car have black headlining or neutral headlining? At that time it is probably Chamois for the neutral.

By the last sentence do you mean interior vinyl and paint? My recollection of my SL hatchback was it had the same vinyl and paint internally as an SS, just the seat inserts, door cards, instruments and dash plastics differed. Mine was 2/76 and from memory the fasia etc was woodgrain and SS were silver.

The carpet is black loop pile. The seat vinyl is Slate Black (as opposed to Black) and they have black and white Herringbone inserts. The "sandpaper" roof lining is only on very late LX and UC, so yours will have the small ribs. Ordinarily, yours would be black, however some SS's had option XY9 which was for Neutral headlining and sunvisors, which in the case of 8VD77 would be Chamois.

Door trims will be Slate Black with Dark Grey Golfball inserts. The filler weight vinyl on the door tops and rear quarters will be Slate Black as well.

I have a photo of a '76 SS with a sliver interior light, but the roof lining is brown. It might be different for black.

SS and SL trims seem to have the same coverage, however I note that S model sedans are missing the vinyl from the door tops. I don't know if this is the case for hatchbacks. (Or even is there was an S model hatch)

Laurie

Torana Hatchback was only in SL (Kingswood) or SS (GTS). There was no Belmont/Holden equivalent like there was in Torana sedan (S).

I'll see if I have that colour/trim page for LX during HX. That August 1977 scan is for the updated HZ colours and trims on Torana. I do have the HX colour/trim Album which has Torana in it.

That would be handy as the one I have doesn't have Mandarin listed.

Partially apart and no broadcast sheet which was expected given its been apart to be painted before I got it. So black herringbone it is for the headlining, probably nicer with the red paint anyway.

The body is far from perfect but pretty good for age.

Bought a one piece rares front spoiler and my man is doing some basic aligning etc before stripping the rest.

Rear hatch hinges are shagged. Rares make replacements.

Drivers door top hinge has a lot of play. How bad we will find out when it comes off.

Cos of the sunroof I only have the rear two headlining bows. How many should there be? Anyone have some lying around? Happy to pay.

Floors pretty good for a 48 year old car Excluding the light butchery of the gearstick hole of course. Sounded like a NASCAR when I had no carpet or deadened in it years ago.
