Mine was quiet from memory, until a lifter started ticking, got progressively worse, then failed. All happened in the space of 200km. Since I replaced the cam and lifters, carefully machined and run in, there is a fair bit of overhead noise, which is quite annoying. Now I am used to it and just keep driving. It doesn’t much vary, just how it is. Different revs, loads and throttle positions make it more or less Audi able but that is probably because other noises drown it out.
