Hi Everyone

My black 308 (probably out of a VK) is randomly misfiring and spluttering. For the last month, I have had the interior out as I have changed the shifter in it (was a Gemini Auto Shifter now it's a factory LC/LJ shifter). Prior to all this it was running fine, I noticed it a few weeks ago when I had it up on stands and I was testing to see it would start with the new shifter wired up, it was missing at idle and the fuel fumes (and raw fuel coming out of the exhaust) was unbearable in the garage. Today I took for for spring after putting it all together and it was sputtering and missing.

Its a Rochester Carbed motor which I haven't touched.

Is it possible that I have messed up wiring somewhere?

It cant be the wiring related to the neutral start switch can it?

Maybe a vacuum line somewhere ?( On the tranny as I was mucking around with linkages?)

Thoughts?

Any help appreciated.

Hei or points distributor? If points maybe the condenser has crapped itself.

Probably flooding. Not unusual for a car that's been sitting, then restarted, to have formed some gummy poo under the needle and seat making the needle and seat not seal off properly and causing flooding.

Let it sit now that it's been run, for a day or two, and the gum may dissolve now that fresh fuel has been running through the needle and seat.

Also, old Quaddie floats can become porous and therefore become "sinks" rather than "floats"

Thanks for that, makes sense and have read that elsewhere. I had the quadrate fully rebuilt last year.

The only vacuum line is the one that goes to the vacuum modulator, you wouldn't have 3rd if it was not on

And a missing vacuum line will make it run lean, not rich.

Can I also add that I went away for 6 weeks in Jul Aug and when I fired it up and drove it, there were no issues with misfiring, spluttering and dumping fuel out the exhaust.
