Hopefully i will be fitting carpet to car in Xmas holidays

Does anyone have suggestions re type of underlay to use

There seems to be a fair variation in what people have used in the forum

Rares have a underlay UF-1 - has anyone had any experience with this

And the floor pan penetrations /holes - what is used to fill them up - would a  rubber grommet suit

Usually with floor penetration holes there is caps to suit.I think Rares sell them. With regards with underlay you can buy the fabric underlay from a trimmer ,I went with that.or the stick on underlay,Whatever takes your fancy.https://www.ebay.com...AyABEgL2B_D_BwEhttps://www.winnerpr...carpet-underlay

Had my Group III new carpet installed by an auto upholsterer he steamed it in and it was perfect and made a huge difference to my test fit installation.  Clean edges and smooth moulded contours and a hugging fit, looked sensational.

Thanks Paul - thinking of standard underlay but wanted to see what other people have done

To keep it original on such a high profile car I asked for period correct (Felt)underlay,  I wanted the sound deadening,  even though I can't find any reference to underlay in the parts book, just "insulator" front floor.  If I have a photo I will post it.

The original underlay was similar to a coconut fibre type stuff, where as the underlay from Knox is a compressed cotton waste .

Hi if you want to put the closest original felt back in your torana just go to your nearest house carpet shop, its called hession underlay, most commercial carpet shops use it mainlly used for motels, high rise buildings etc, its the hession felt is 6 feet wide,  so 2 metres will get you out of trouble at around 13 dollars a metre it should cost you 26.00 dollars.  good luck
