So as many of you probably know there is an ongoing spate of VF commodore and variant thefts.

Its mostly the push button start models as all you need is a cheap eBay device to plug into the OBD port and you can make a new “key”, i.e. an electronic signal to start the car and drive away.

Usually preceded by cutting the wire to the horn which is easily accessible. This stops the alarm noise when they break in.

Bit of a design oversight. And who would have thought that swapping a complicated metal device (key) for a push button would make cars easier to steal. Doh!

My VF2 clubsport is resting up in the inaccessible fortress of solitude but the daily sludge Caprice is presumably also at risk.

So I managed to dig out a device from the past.

The good old club lock in easy to see red.

Maybe its not enough?

So I hunted hard for my other relic and voila!

The old brake pedal lock.

I know they wont stop the determined or well prepared but hopefully the chancers will move on to something else.

Might paint the brake lock bright red too for maximum deterrent value.

Love it
The modern iPhone equipped tech savvy thief won’t have a clue how to deal with a pair of chunks of steel like that
I can easily imagine them seeing that and moving on to an easier target
Old fashioned nuts and bolts practicality back in style
Great thinking

99% of car thieves would turn around and look for an easier target after seeing the club lock.

What "job" are you doing to the OBD port Col?
